THE FOUNDATION'S PURPOSE WAS TO RAISE AND ADMINISTER FUNDS FOR THE BENEFIT OF NOT-FOR-PROFIT CORPORATIONS THAT ARE EXEMPT FROM TAX UNDER SECTION 501(C)(3) OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE AND ARE NOT PRIVATE FOUNDATIONS. THE FOUNDATION HAS BEEN DISSOLVED.

EDUCATION - WE STROVE TO PROMOTE A GREATER UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATION OF SCIENCE AMONG THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND TO EDUCATE THE YOUNG SCIENTISTS OF THE FUTURE BY PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR BOTH HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE STUDENTS TO WORK WITH PROFESSIONAL SCIENTISTS ON CHALLENGING PROJECTS. WE ENCOURAGED THEM TO PURSUE CAREERS IN THE SCIENCES AND TO BECOME PART OF THE NEXT GENERATION OF BIOMEDICAL RESEARCHERS.


THE BAIRD VIDEO PROJECT WAS CREATED TO HELP RAISE AWARENESS OF HAUPTMAN WOODWARD MEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE AND THE WORK BEING PERFORMED.


SPONSOR A YOUNG PROFESSIONAL. THIS PROGRAM WAS THE YOUNG PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM. HWF WAS RECRUITING 30 YOUNG PROFESSIONALS FROM AREA BUSINESSES AND CORPORATIONS, ORGANIZATIONS AS AMBASSADORS FOR HWF. THIS PROGRAM EDUCATED YOUNG PROFESSIONALS ON OUR MISSION, THE WORK WE DID, AND HOW TO HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR THE FOUNDATION. THIS YEAR-LONG PROGRAM INCLUDED TRAINING AND CULMINATED IN A SPECIAL RECOGNITION CEREMONY. WE NEEDED RESOURCES TO BE ABLE TO OFFER THIS OPPORTUNITY FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.


CORNELL TRUST WAS ESTABLISHED TO CREATE NOVEL PROGRAMS THAT HAVE POSITIVE IMPACTS ON LOCAL STUDENTS AND ASSIST IN THE CREATION OF A MORE COHESIVE SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY. THIS INCLUDED THE CREATION OF A NEW STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY WORKSHOP, THE BNMC RESEARCH DISCOVERY DAY AND PARTICIPATION IN MANY NEW OUTREACH PROGRAMS THAT AIMED TO INCREASE THE DIVERSITY OF THE LOCAL BIOMEDICAL WORKFORCE.
