THE ACADEMY FOR EDUCATIONAL STUDIES HOSTED TWO ACADEMIC CONFERENCES IN 2023 - THE CRITICAL QUESTIONS IN EDUCATION CONFERENCE, IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, IN LATE FEBRUARY/EARLY MARCH; AND THE CRITICAL QUESTIONS IN EDUCATION SYMPOSIUM, IN NOVEMBER, IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. THE CONFERENCE FOCUSED ON THREE TOPICS: "CLEANING THE CLOSEST" OF EDUCATIONAL IDEAS--THAT IS, GETTING RID OF EDUCATIONAL IDEAS THAT ARE OUTDATED OR DON'T WORK; LETTERS TO TEACHERS--THAT IS, THE LETTER TO A TEACHER THAT YOU HAVE LONG WANTED TO WRITE, BUT HAVEN'T; AND THE ADVANTAGES OF EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION. THE SYMPOSIUM FOCUSED ON A SINGLE TOPIC: TEACHING, THEN AND NOW: HOW HAS THE NARRATIVE OF TEACHING CHANGED? OVER TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY PEOPLE ATTENDED THE CONFERENCE; ABOUT 150 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE SYMPOSIUM. THE ACADEMY CONTINUED ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH MYERS EDUCATION PRESS. ONE BOOK HAS BEEN PUBLISHED--LITERARY IMAGINATION AND PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE: USING LITERATURE IN TEACHER EDUCATION. A SECOND BOOK WILL BE PUBLISHED VERY SOON--A BOOK THAT CHALLENGES OVER A DOZEN GENERALLY ACCEPTED "COMMON IDEAS" IN EDUCATION. WE DISTRIBUTED BOOKS AT BOTH GATHERINGS--SAN DIEGO AND CHICAGO--TO THOSE IN ATTENDANCE. THE ACADEMY CONTINUES TO PUBLISH SCHOLARLY ARTICLES IN ITS BLIND PEER-REVIEWED OPEN-ACCESS ONLINE JOURNAL, CRITICAL QUESTIONS IN EDUCATION.
