TO ACCOMPLISH THIS, THE ABMGG:1. ACCREDITS MEDICAL GENETICS AND GENOMICS LABORATORY TRAINING PROGRAMS;2. CREDENTIALS AND CERTIFIES PRACTITIONERS OF MEDICAL GENETICS AND GENOMICS; AND3. FOSTERS LIFE-LONG LEARNING THROUGH CONTINUING CERTIFICATION.

CERTIFICATION EXAMINATIONS ARE GIVEN EVERY OTHER YEAR IN ORDER TO CERTIFY THOSE GENETICISTS PROVIDING CLINICAL SERVICES WHO HAVE RECEIVED ADEQUATE PREPARATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE BOARD'S EDUCATIONAL, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE STANDARDS.


ACCREDITATION OF MEDICAL GENETICS LABORATORY TRAINING PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES BASED ON STANDARDS ESTABLISHED BY THE BOARD.


MAINTAINING CERTIFICATION THROUGH A COMPREHENSIVE, CONTINUING CERTIFICATION PROGRAM COMPRISED OF ACTIVITIES DESIGNED TO ASSIST DIPLOMATES WITH MAINTAINING CURRENT KNOWLEDGE AND IMPROVING THEIR SPECIALTY PRACTICE TO BETTER MEET PATIENT CARE NEEDS. EACH THREE-YEAR SEGMENT IS ASSOCIATED WITH CERTAIN ACTIVITIES ENCOMPASSING PROFESSIONALISM, LIFELONG LEARNING, LONGITUDINAL ASSESSMENT (KNOWLEDGE-BASED), AND IMPROVEMENT IN MEDICAL PRACTICE.
