PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS: 1. ANTI-RACIST U.S. HISTORY PROGRAM FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: ALIGNED WITH BUTTERFLY NOIR INC.'S MISSION TO CLOSE THE OPPORTUNITY GAP FOR EMERGING BLACK ARTISTS, WE LAUNCHED A VIRTUAL ANTI-RACIST HISTORY PROGRAM AIMED AT MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. THE PROGRAM, ROOTED IN OUR BELIEF THAT UNDERSTANDING HISTORY AND THE SOCIOPOLITICAL LANDSCAPE IS ESSENTIAL FOR CREATING IMPACTFUL ART, REACHED 14 STUDENTS. THE CURRICULUM CRITICALLY EXAMINED SOCIETAL STRUCTURES AND CULTURAL ASSUMPTIONS ROOTED IN RACISM IN AMERICA. IT ALSO EMPOWERED STUDENTS BY PROVIDING TOOLS TO ADVOCATE FOR THEMSELVES AND THEIR COMMUNITIES. TO DEEPEN THEIR UNDERSTANDING, 18 STUDENTS FROM NEW YORK AND GEORGIA, INCLUDING 4 ALUMNI, PARTICIPATED IN A CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL TRIP TO THE LEGACY MUSEUM IN MONTGOMERY, AL. WE ALSO HELPED YOU YOUNG AUTHORS FROM THE PROGRAM, CREATE AND PUBLISH A BOOK. WE THEN HELD A BOOK SIGNING EVENT FOR THE AUTHORS IN WHICH OVER 75 PEOPLE ATTENDED. 2. COMMUNITY ARTS WORKSHOPS: BUTTERFLY NOIR INC. CONDUCTED FOUR 6-12 WEEK COMMUNITY ARTS WORKSHOPS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, REACHING OVER 200 PARTICIPANTS FROM UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES. THESE WORKSHOPS ARE CENTRAL TO OUR MISSION OF ERADICATING THE BARRIERS BLACK ARTISTS FACE DUE TO SYSTEMIC RACISM. INFUSING WRITING INTO ACTIVISM (VIRTUAL): PARTICIPANTS EXPLORED VARIOUS SCREENPLAY AND TELEPLAY GENRES, FOCUSING ON ISSUES IMPACTING THEIR COMMUNITIES. THIS WORKSHOP ENCOURAGED THE INTEGRATION OF ACTIVISM INTO CREATIVE WRITING, EMPOWERING PARTICIPANTS TO USE STORYTELLING AS A TOOL FOR SOCIAL CHANGE. OUT IN THE FIELD: CINEMATOGRAPHY (HYBRID): NEW YORK CITY-BASED CINEMATOGRAPHERS WERE INVITED TO LEARN HANDS-ON TECHNIQUES FOR CAPTURING COMPELLING FOOTAGE, USING CAMERA MOVEMENTS AND ANGLES TO CONVEY EMOTIONS AND SET THE TONE OF A FILM. THIS WORKSHOP WAS DESIGNED TO ENHANCE THE TECHNICAL SKILLS NECESSARY FOR EMERGING FILMMAKERS TO TELL POWERFUL STORIES.
