WE PROMOTE THE CONSERVATION AND EDUCATION OF MIGRATORY BIRDS THROUGH SCIENTIFIC STUDY AND THE OPERATING OF A REHABILITATION CENTER AND EDUCATIONAL CENTER

WE ARE NOW IN THE PROCESS OF WORKING WITH COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY'S DOLORES COUNTY EXTENSION OFFICE IN THEIR CITIZEN SCIENCE PROGRAM. SWAPS SUPPLIES, FREE OF CHARGE, DIAGRAMS, AND INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO BUILD AND PLACE MIGRATORY BIRD NESTING PLATFORMS. IN EXCHANGE, THE INDIVIDUAL SUPPLIES SWAPS WITH VITAL DATA PERTAINING TO THE PLATFORM SIGHT. THIS WOULD INCLUDE BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO, THE NUMBER OF ACRES UNUSABLE DUE TO RODENTS, THE NUMBER OF PLATFORMS BEING USED, THE NUMBER OF MIGRATORY BIRDS AT THE END OF THE SEASON, AND THE PERCENT OF LAND RECLAIMED DUE TO THE NESTING PLATFORM OR RAPTOR ACTIVITY.


IT IS ESTIMATED THAT ONLY ONE-THIRD OF ALL RAPTORS TAKEN INTO A FACILITY WILL BE RELEASED BACK INTO THE WILD. OUR FACILITY HAS PROVIDED MEDICAL CARE, REHABILITATION, AND A SUCCESSFUL RELEASE FOR EIGHT OF THE ELEVEN RAPTORS TAKEN IN THIS YEAR. TWO ARE STILL UNDER OUR CARE. OUR FACILITY MAINTAINS APPROXIMATELY TWO RAPTORS IN CARE AT ALL TIMES AND THE AVERAGE STAY FOR A PATIENT IS TWO MONTHS. PROVIDING CARE FOR RAPTORS IS A DAILY TASK. WE PROVIDE MEDICAL CARE FOR NEW ARRIVALS AND DAILY MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR PATIENTS ALREADY IN CARE. FOOD AND DAILY EXERCISE ARE PROVIDED EVERY DAY.


THE EDUCATION CENTER IS OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC FOR FREE. WE HAVE FOUR RAPTORS THAT ARE MAINTAINED IN OUR FACILITY. THESE ARE USED TO EDUCATE THE GENERAL PUBLIC ABOUT THE BASIC ECOLOGICAL, BIOLOGICAL, AND CONSERVATION OF RAPTORS. SINCE OPENING THE FACILITY IN JUNE OF 2021, WE HAVE PROVIDED SIXTEEN DIFFERENT CLASSES AND HAVE MADE CONTACT WITH OVER 120 PEOPLE. THIS IS S BRICK AND MORTAR FACILITY WHERE WE PROVIDE OVER 300 HOURS A YEAR OF STATIC DISPLAYS.
