THE KIVA CENTER'S MISSION IS TO BUILD INNER STRENGTH AND COMPASSION IN COLORADOS YOUTH THROUGH TRANSFORMATIONAL NATURE-CONNECTION EXPERIENCES.

FARM AND FOREST DAYS HOME SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM RUNS 5 DAYS/WEEK THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR AT A LOCAL FARM. IN 2022 IT SERVED 125 STUDENTS AGES 6-18. CHILDREN LEARN HANDS-ON FARM SKILLS, TEAMWORK, AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY. IN 2022, 4 MENTORS WERE HIRED AND TRAINED IN ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION. ADDITIONALLY, 4 TEENS GAINED LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND WORK EXPERIENCE THROUGH OUR GROWING MENTOR IN TRAINING (MIT) PROGRAM.


ECO-EXPLORERS AFTER-SCHOOL AND SUMMER PROGRAM: THE AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM IS A PRIMARILY OUTDOORS-BASED CLASS FOCUSED ON NATURE CONNECTION. IT IS FUNDED BY GRANTS, AND IN 2022 IT WAS PROVIDED FOR FREE TO 70 STUDENTS AGES 5-11 AT TWO DISADVANTAGED INNER-CITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN DENVER. ONE TEENGAGER FROM THE COMMUNITY WORKED AS AN ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR IN THIS PROGRAM, GAINING REAL-LIFE LEADERSHIP AND WORK EXPERIENCE.


PUBLIC SCHOOL ENRICHMENT & SUMMER CAMP WORKSHOPS: IN 2022, THE KIVA CENTER LAUNCHED A NEW ITERATION OF ITS SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM CALLED "ECOLOGY AS A METAPHOR FOR HEALTHY COMMUNITIES". THIS PROGRAM INTEGRATES SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING WITH ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION TO BUILD RESILIENT COMMUNITIES. 150 FOURTH GRADE STUDENTS IN ST VRAIN VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT WERE SERVED THROUGH THIS PROGRAM.
