TO PROVIDE A TEMPORARY HOME FOR YOUNG WOMEN COMING TO AND BEING IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, WHO SHALL, FROM ANY CAUSE, BE IN WANT OF AND WILLING TO ACCEPT TEMPORARY HOME, CARE AND ASSISTANCE IN THE SAID DISTRICT.

THE YOUNG WOMAN'S CHRISTIAN HOME HAS BEEN A HAVEN TO THOUSANDS OF YOUNG WOMEN SINCE ITS CHARTER BY CONGRESS IN 1887 TO FULFILL THE NEED FOR TEMPORARY HOUSING FOR YOUNG WOMEN WHO WERE COMING ALONE TO WASHINGTON, DC, SEEKING EDUCATION OR EMPLOYMENT UNTIL THEY COULD BECOME ESTABLISHED IN THE COMMUNITY. THE HOME PROVIDES LIVING QUARTERS, HOUSEKEEPING, MAJOR MEALS, SECURITY SYSTEM, RECREATION ROOM, COMPUTER ROOM, AND COMMON LIVING AREAS FOR SOCIALIZATION. THE HOME ALSO PROVIDES MEALS FOR GUESTS OF ITS RESIDENTS. IN 2022, 354 YOUNG WOMEN AGES 18 TO 34 WERE PROVIDED ROOM AND BOARD. THE YOUNG WOMAN'S CHRISTIAN HOME HAS HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON THE LIVES OF MANY WOMEN FROM ACROSS THE UNITED STATES AND AROUND THE WORLD, REPRESENTING NUMEROUS CULTURES AND RELIGIONS.
