THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE AND PURPOSES OF THE SAHALOKA MONASTIC COMMUNITY ARE TO CREATE A PLACE OF CONTEMPLATION, MEDITATION, PRAYER; A RESIDENCE FOR A CONGREGATION OF BUDDHIST MONASTICS' AND AN INSTITUTION FOR THE STUDY AND PRACTICE OF MAHAYANA BUDDISM, THUS SUPPORTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF AMERICAN BUDDHIST MONASTICISM BY MEANS OF STUDY RESEARCH, PUBLICATIONS AND EXHCNAGE WITH OTHER MONASTIC COMMUNITIES.

"SAHALOKA MAINTAINS A COMMUNITY HOUSE TO (1) PROVIDE RELIGIOUS RETREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR RESIDENT AND VISITING MONASTICS; (2) TO PROVIDED A SPACE FOR REGULAR, ONGOING RELIGIOUS LITURGICAL PRACTICE FOR RESIDENT AND LOCAL MONASTICS, AND (3) TO PROVIDE A LOCATION FOR ONGOING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS. THE LARGEST CATEGORY OF EXPENDITURES RELATE TO UPKEEP AND MAINTENANCE OF THE FACILITY AND FOOD COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH RETREATS AND TEACHING EVENTS. OUR ONE VEHICLE IS USED FOR THE TRANSPORT OF VISITING RETREATANTS, TRANSPORT OF RESIDENT MONASTICS TO TEACHINGS AND COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES AND FOR ROUTINE TASKS SUCH AS FOOD AND SUPPLY SHOPPING."
