THE CALIFORNIA URBAN PARTNERSHIP BUILDS ECONOMIC SECURITY IN COMMUNITIES OF COLOR THROUGH POLICY RESEARCH, EDUCATION AND ORGANIZING COMMUNITY ACTION.

WE SUPPORTED OVER 250 SACRAMENTO DRUG WAR SURVIVORS IN THEIR PUSH FOR GREATER RACIAL EQUITY AND JUSTICE REINVESTMENT IN LOCAL CANNABIS POLICY IMPLEMENTATION. THE FOCUS WAS ON EDUCATING AND SUPPORTING ENTREPRENEURS/ADVOCATES AROUND HOW TO AMPLIFY THEIR VOICES AND FRAME ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BARRIERS SUCH AS LICENSING, ACCESS TO CAPITAL, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND AFFORDABLE OPERATING SPACE NEEDS OF CORE PROGRAM ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS. THIS RESULTED IN A WIN OF 10 NEW RETAIL LICENSE OPPORTUNITIES EXCLUSIVELY FOR DRUG WAR SURVIVORS IN SACRAMENTO.
OUR JUSTICE TO JOBS COALITION DEVELOPED A MORE COORDINATED EXPUNGEMENT EFFORT THAT INCREASED THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE ASSISTED WITH LEGAL SERVICES. IN CONJUNCTION WITH OUR SUBGRANTEE YOUTH FORWARD, WE WORKED WITH VARIOUS PARTNERS AND LOCAL POLICYMAKERS TO EXPUNGE THE RECORDS OF OVER 6,000 SACRAMENTANS WITH PRIOR MARIJUANA CONVICTIONS.
WE CONVENED OVER 40 COMMUNITY LEADERS IN A SERIES OF EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS REGARDING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A RACIAL EQUITY OFFICE IN THE CITY OF SACRAMENTO, AND THE USE OF RACIAL IMPACT TOOLS. THIS INCLUDED TRAINING COMMUNITY LEADERS TO MAKE PRESENTATIONS TO POLICYMAKER AND OPINION LEADERS REGARDING THE BENEFITS OF CREATING A RACIAL EQUITY OFFICE, AND USING A RACIAL IMPACT ANALYSES.
