OUR MISSION IS TO PROVIDE MEDIATION AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION EDUCATION.

MEDIATION: NMC IS ONE OF THE DISPUTE RESOLUTION CENTER PROVIDERS OF CONCILIATION/MEDIATION SERVICES FOR THE EVICTION RESOLUTION PILOT PROGRAM (ERPP), MANDATED BY LAW IN WASHINGTON STATE TO HELP HOUSING PROVIDERS AND RENTERS RESOLVE THE ISSUE OF UNPAID RENT RESULTING FROM TENANTS COVID-RELATED FINANCIAL CRISES. THE PROGRAMS GOALS ARE TO HELP PREVENT HOMELESS FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS, AND TO HELP KEEP HOUSING PROVIDERS FROM HARDSHIP AND/OR LOSING THEIR PROPERTIES DUE TO LACK OF RENTAL RECEIPTS. WE OPENED OVER 2000 ERPP CASES IN 2021, SERVING AT AVERAGE OF TWO TENANTS AND ONE LANDLORD PER CASE, NOT TO MENTION THE CHILDREN IN THE HOUSEHOLDS OF THE TENANTS. ALONG THE WAY, WE WERE ABLE TO ESTABLISH AT LEAST A DOZEN NEW COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS WITH SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS AND AGENCIES. NMC ALSO PROVIDED GENERAL MEDIATION SERVICES FOR FAMILIES, ALONG WITH MISCELLANEOUS KINDS OF COMMUNITY MEDIATION, DIRECTLY SERVING AT LEAST 100 ADULTS AND INDIRECTLY SERVING.


SHARING THE CHILDREN: PARENT CONNECTION CLASSES, THROUGH SPOKANE JUVENILE COURT, ADDRESSED FAMILY CONFLICT MANAGEMENT FOR NUMEROUS PARENTS OF AT-RISK YOUTH. SHARING THE CHILDREN CLASSES, MANDATED BY THE SPOKANE COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT, HELPED OVER 700 SEPARATING/DIVORCING PARENTS LEARN TO CO-PARENT IN A WAY THAT WOULD HELP SHELTER THEIR CHILDREN FROM INCREASED TRAUMA DUE TO INTER-PARENTAL CONFLICT. THIS RESULTED IN BENEFIT TO THE CHILDREN OF AT LEAST 350 HOUSEHOLDS, WITH AN AVERAGE OF 2 CHILDREN EACH.


EDUCATION: OUR BASIC (40-HOUR) AND ADVANCED (20-HOUR) MEDIATOR TRAINING CLASSES PROVIDED INSTRUCTION IN FACILITATIVE MEDIATION, VIA ZOOM, TO 43 PARTICIPANTS FROM ACROSS THE STATE, AND 5 INTERNS JOINED OUR MEDIATOR PRACTICUM PROGRAM THAT LEADS TO CERTIFICATION.
