IN 2023, ADP PURSUED SEVERAL OBJECTIVES TO FURTHER ITS IMPACT IN RWANDA. THIS INCLUDED BOOSTING PRODUCTIVITY AND RESILIENCE THROUGH DIVERSIFIED CROPS, INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT TRAINING, ENHANCING IRRIGATION SYSTEMS FOR SUSTAINABLE WATER MANAGEMENT, FOSTERING INCLUSIVE MARKETS THROUGH STORAGE FACILITIES AND MARKET CONNECTIONS, AND BUILDING COOPERATIVES; GOVERNANCE AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT CAPACITY. ADP IMPLEMENTED A SIGNIFICANT CAPITAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT FOR KOTIMIR COOPERATIVE IN RWANDA WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF A FARM PACK HOUSE WITH SORTING BAY, OFFICE AND COLD STORAGE FACILITY. THE GOAL OF THE OFF-GRID SOLAR POWERED ENABLES THE COOPERATIVE AND OTHER LOCAL FARMERS TO MINIMIZE POST-HARVEST LOSSES BY SELLING PRODUCE WHEN PRICES PEAK.
IN UGANDA, ADP'S VOCATIONAL TRAINING OFFERS COOPERATIVE MEMBERS, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS ACCESS TO COMPUTER LITERACY, SEWING, AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP COURSES. IN 2023, ADP TRAINED 79 STUDENTS WHILE IN RWANDA ADP TRAINED 40 STUDENTS THROUGH OUR MICROBUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
IN RWANDA, ADP SUPPORTS EIGHT AGRICULTURAL COLLECTIVES IN BUGESERA DISTRICT, A DISTRICT PRONE TO DROUGHTS, LAND DEGRADATION, PEST AND DISEASE OCCURRENCES, AND OTHER CLIMATE RELATED CHALLENGES. TO TACKLE THE ISSUE OF CROP DAMAGE DUE TO PESTS AND DISEASES, ADP IMPLEMENTED A PILOT PROJECT INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT IN FARMER FIELD SCHOOLS FOR CROP RESILIENCE AND IMPROVED LIVELIHOODS. THE PROJECT STRENGTHENS FARMERS; CAPACITY TO RESPOND TO THE RAPIDLY CHANGING FARM ENVIRONMENT, REDUCE CROP DAMAGE AND INCREASE CROP YIELD LEADING TO ENHANCED PRODUCTIVITY, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, HEALTH, AND OVERALL WELL-BEING. IN UGANDA, ADP CONSTRUCTED A NEW CLASSROOM, PURCHASED SEWING MACHINES AND EXPAND ITS SEWING PROGRAM. THE NEW CLASSROOM ALLOWS ADP TO OFFER CLASSES BEYOND ITS CURRENT LEVEL ONE TRAINING. THE NEW ONE YEAR LEVEL 2 TRAINING WILL OFFER LEVEL 1 STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPAND THEIR BASIC SKILLS TO BECOME PROFESSIONAL TAILORS.
