THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THIS TAX EXEMPT IRC SECTION 501(C)(9) VOLUNTARY EMPLOYEES' BENEFICIARY ASSOCIATION ("VEBA") IS TO PROVIDE PERMISSIBLE WELFARE BENEFITS TO THE VEBA MEMBERS. THE VEBA TRUST PROVIDED BENEFITS FOR 4,099 ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS AND 846 RETIRED OR SEPARATED PARTICIPANTS FROM MEMBER AND EMPLOYER CONTRIBUTIONS. THE VEBA IS RECOGNIZED AS A MASTER TRUST INVESTMENT ACCOUNT ("MTIA") FOR FORM 5500 PURPOSES. AS SUCH, THE MTIA (VEBA) IS NOT SUBJECT TO AUDIT REQUIREMENTS SET FORTH BY THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, BUT THE UNDERLYING PLANS PAID THROUGH THE VEBA ARE SUBJECT TO AUDIT, WHERE APPLICABLE.
