TO CREATE THE HIGHEST QUALITY OF LIFE FOR SYLVANIA AREA RESIDENTS IN NEED BY UTILIZING PUBLIC AND PRIVATE RESOURCES FOR THEIR BENEFIT.

Part 3 - Line 4a

PROVIDING SOCIAL SERVICES TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN NEED, INCLUDING SERVING AS A DISTRIBUTION CENTER FOR GOVERNMENT SURPLUS AND COMMUNITY EXCESS FOOD. LOW INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES LIVING AT OR BELOW THE POVERTY GUIDELINES BENEFIT FROM THE DISTRIBUTION OF EMERGENCY FOOD, GOVERNMENT SURPLUS FOOD, AND THE ORGANIZATION'S WEEKLY HARVEST PROGRAM. DURING 2019, 8,186 INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVED BY THE HARVEST CHOICE PANTRY AND EMERGENCY FOOD PROGRAMS. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO PROVIDED EMERGENCY RENT AND UTILITY ASSISTANCE. IN 2020,UTILITY ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED TO 10 HOUSEHOLDS.


PROVIDING A YOUTH DIVERSION PROGRAM TO FIRST-TIME, NON-VIOLENT OFFENDERS AGE 11-17 (18 IF STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL), AND THEIR FAMILIES. SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THIS PROGRAM RESULTS IN NO JUVENILE RECORD OF CONVICTION FOR THE YOUTH. DURING 2020, SYLVANIA AREA FAMILY SERVICES SERVED 52 YOUTHS AND THEIR FAMILIES.


PROVIDING A COMMUNITY CENTER TO OFFER PROGRAMS TO YOUTH & SENIOR CITIZENS FROM LOW-INCOME FAMILIES. THE ORGANIZATION IS A LICENSED DAY CAMP PROVIDER THROUGH THE STATE OF OHIO, AND OFFERED 9 WEEKS OF SUMMER CAMP FOR LOW- INCOME OR AT-RISK YOUTH WHO OTHERWISE MIGHT NOT HAVE HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN SUCH A PROGRAM. DURING 2020, THE PROGRAM WAS SUSPENDED DUE TO COVID, BUT STARTED BACK UP IN 2021. IN ADDITION, SYLVANIA AREA FAMILY SERVICES PROVIDED 310 LOW INCOME STUDENTS IN SYLVANIA SCHOOLS WITH NEW BACKPACKS AND SCHOOL SUPPLY KITS.
