THE MISSION OF LAMBDA ARCHIVES OF SAN DIEGO IS TO COLLECT, PRESERVE, AND TEACH THE HISTORY OF LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, AND TRANSGENDER PEOPLE IN THE SAN DIEGO AND NORTHERN BAJA CALIFORNIA REGION.

IN 2023, WE DISTRIBUTED $9,000 TO 9 LOCAL LGBTQ+ LATINX STUDENTS ATTENDING LOCAL COMMUNITY COLLEGES - NEARLY TWICE AS MANY SCHOLARSHIPS AS THE YEAR BEFORE. WE ALSO HOSTED APPROXIMATELY 100 PEOPLE AT THE SCHOLARSHIP RECEPTION AND PRIDE KICK-OFF MONTH EVENT. THE EVENT HAS BECOME SO POPULAR THAT IT HAS BECOME A SIGNATURE EVENT.WITH SUPPORT FROM THE CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY, WE PROCESSED AND ADDED METADATA TO 2,486 PHOTOS FROM OUR LOCAL LGBTQ+ HISTORY WITH AN EMPHASIS ON BLACK, INDIGENOUS, PEOPLE OF COLOR. THESE PHOTOGRAPHIC COLLECTIONS ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO VIEW ONLINE AND INCLUDE PHOTOS FROM THE MARTI MACKEY, ORGULLO SIN FRONTERAS, AND JESS JESSOP COLLECTIONS.WE ACCESSIONED 35 NEW COLLECTIONS, WHICH INCLUDED PLANNING DOCUMENTS FOR SAN DIEGO TRANS PRIDE 2017; A COLLECTION OF LPS AND BOOKS FROM CAROL CIANFARANI & PAT LINKINBACH; AND ITEMS FROM THE SAN DIEGO POOL LEAGUE.WITH HUNDREDS OF RECORDED ORAL HISTORIES ALREADY MAINTAINED IN OUR COLLECTION, WE EXPANDED OUR OUTREACH SPECIFIC TO ORAL HISTORIES BY CAPTURING STORIES FROM OUR LOCAL LGBTQ+ LEATHER COMMUNITY, LONG-TIME AIDS ACTIVISTS, AND THE TRANS POLICING DISPARITIES PROJECT. IN TOTAL, WE RECORDED 28 ORAL HISTORIES IN 2023.IN 2023, LAMBDA ARCHIVES CURATED AND PRESENTED FIVE EXHIBITS, WHICH INCLUDED THE QUEER EROTIC TRAVELING EXHIBIT; INTERPRIDE EXHIBIT FEATURING ITEMS FROM THE DOUG MOORE COLLECTION; QUEER ARTISTS PROJECT EXHIBIT IN COLLABORATION WITH THE STUDIO DOOR; AND OUR FIRST EVER LGBTQ+ STUDENT EXHIBIT CURATED BY LOCAL LGBTQ+ YOUTH.THANKS TO FUNDING FROM THE COUNTY OF SAN DIEGOS K-12 COMMUNITY GRANT PROGRAM, WE LAUNCHED OUR INAUGURAL LGBTQ+ YOUTH PROGRAMS. THIS DYNAMIC PROGRAM INCLUDES PROVIDING PAID INTERNSHIPS AND LAPTOPS FOR 10 LGBTQ+ HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.
