Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR PHARMACEUTICAL ENGINEERING IS THE WORLD'S LARGEST NOT-FOR-PROFIT ASSOCIATION SERVING ITS MEMBERS BY LEADING SCIENTIFIC, TECHNICAL AND REGULATORY ADVANCEMENT THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PHARMACEUTICAL LIFECYCLE. THE GEATER LOS ANGELES CHAPTER LEADS THIS ADVANCEMENT PRIMARILY THROUGH LOCAL CHAPTER EVENTS DESIGNED TO CONNECT AND FOSTER COLLABORATION BETWEEN VARIOUS GROUPS THROUGHOUT THE PHARMACEUTICAL SUPPLY CHAIN, INCLUDING SERVICE FIRMS (ARCHITECTURAL, ENGINEERING, CONSTRUCTION, CONSULTING), OWNER ORGANIZATIONS (BIOPHARMACEUTICAL MANUFACTURING), AND REGULATORY AND GUIDANCE BODIES. THE CHAPTER HOSTS TWO LARGE EVENTS PER YEAR AND NUMEROUS SMALLER EVENTS. EACH SPRING THE CHAPTER HOSTS A LOCAL GOLF TOURNAMENT, FUNDED BY LOCAL SPONSORS OF THE ORGANIZATION. SPONSORS INCLUDE SERVICE FIRMS AND OWNER FIRMS, AND PROCEEDS FROM THE TOURNAMENT GO TO SUPPORT THE CHAPTERS OPERATING COSTS. THE TOURNAMENT FURTHERS THE ORGANIZATIONS EXEMPT PURPOSE BY PROVIDING A MEDIUM FOR COLLABORATION AND NETWORKING OF THE VARIOUS MEMBERS OF THE SERVICE AND MANUFACTURING SUPPLY CHAIN. THE TOURNAMENT PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR SENIOR LEADERS OF BOTH SERVICE AND MANUFACTURING TO DIRECTLY COLLABORATE AND DISCUSS UPCOMING TRENDS AND MUTUAL OPPORTUNITIES TO SUPPORT THE INDUSTRY, AND PROMOTES SHARING OF NEW INFORMATION AND PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY NETWORKING. EACH FALL, THE CHAPTER HOSTS A LOCAL VENDOR SHOW. VENDORS ACROSS THE SUPPLY CHAIN GATHER IN A LOCAL CONVENTION VENUE TO SHARE IDEAS, OPPORTUNITIES, AND DISPLAY NEW OR INNOVATIVE ADVANCES ACROSS THE SCIENTIFIC, TECHNICAL, AND ENGINEERING SPACE IN THE PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY. KEYNOTE SPEAKERS ARE TYPICALLY SENIOR REGULATORY OFFICIALS (FDA/EMA) OR EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP FROM THE PHARMACEUTICAL MANUFACTURING SPACE. THIS VENDOR SHOW PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE INNOVATIVE OR BEST PRACTICES APPROACHES TO VARIOUS FIELDS WITHIN THE INDUSTRY, INCLUDING SUCH CONCEPTS AS MODULAR CLEANROOM MANUFACTURING, SINGLE USE MANUFACTURING, OR ASEPTIC PROCESSING. THE SHOW PROVIDES A MEDIUM FOR DISSEMINATING UPDATED REGULATORY GUIDANCE AND BEST PRACTICES, AS WELL AS NEW OR IMPROVED ENGINEERING AND TECHNICAL FUNCTIONS, SUCH AS CLEANING, SANITIZATION, BIOTECH PROCESSING, ASEPTIC MANUFACTURING, AND FILL/FINISH CAPABILITIES. PROCEEDS FROM THE EVENT ARE USED TO SUPPORT THE CHAPTERS ONGOING OPERATING EXPENSES, INCLUDING EXPENSES TO HOST THE EVENT ITSELF. THE CHAPTER HOSTS SEVERAL SMALLER EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THESE ARE PRIMARILY EDUCATIONAL OR PROCESS-SPECIFIC EVENTS, OFTEN COMBINED WITH A TOUR OR WALKTHROUGH OF A LOCAL BIOPHARMACEUTICAL MANUFACTURING FACILITY. THIS GIVES INDUSTRY WORKERS THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE IDEAS AND COLLABORATION AND REVIEW DIFFERENT PROCESSES AND METHODS WITHIN THE MANUFACTURING SPACE. OTHER EVENTS ARE DRIVEN BY CHAPTER COMMITTEES, SUCH AS WOMEN IN PHARMA OR STUDENT CHAPTERS FROM LOCAL COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES WITHIN THE CHAPTERS PURVIEW. MOST SMALLER EVENTS ARE MORE INTIMATE AND FOCUSED ON A SPECIFIC MANUFACTURING CONCEPT OR PROCESS, SUCH AS CELL AND GENE THERAPY, CHANGES IN THE REGULATORY ENVIRONMENT, OR TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER AND SCALEUP. THESE EVENTS TYPICALLY HAVE AT LEAST ONE KEYNOTE SPEAKER, OFTEN A SENIOR REGULATORY OR ENGINEERING EXECUTIVE FROM AN OWNER FIRM, OR A SENIOR LEADER FROM A CONSULTING OR ENGINEERING SERVICE FIRM. THE CHAPTER PARTNERS WITH STUDENT CHAPTERS AT COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES WITHIN ITS PURVIEW (GREATER LOS ANGELES), AND ACTIVELY PROMOTES STUDENT INVOLVEMENT IN ISPE VIA ITS STUDENT CHAPTER COMMITTEE. THE CHAPTER ROUTINELY PARTNERS WITH THE KECK GRADUATE INSTITUTE AND OTHER GRADUATE ORGANIZATIONS TO DEVELOP INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS AND TRAINING/EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR BOTH UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE STUDENTS. THE CHAPTER ACTIVELY ORGANIZES AND HOSTS A ONCE-PER-YEAR INTERN PROGRAM BY WHICH SELECTED INTERNS FROM OWNER FIRMS (E.G. B.BRAUN, AMGEN, TAKEDA) PROVIDE A BEFORE AND AFTER OF THEIR SUMMER INTERN EXPERIENCE AT THE OWNER FIRMS. THE CHAPTER HOSTS A SMALL EVENT BEFORE AND AFTER THE INTERNS BEGIN THEIR PROGRAMS, WHEREBY THE INTERNS CAN SHARE WHAT THEY LEARNED DURING THEIR PROGRAM WITH ONE ANOTHER AND WITH THE BROADER GROUP. THE CHAPTER ALSO PROVIDES JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR GRADUATING STUDENTS, CONNECTING STUDENTS WITH EMPLOYERS AND PROJECT OPPORTUNITIES.
