PROVIDE FREE LEGAL ASSISTANCE TO LOW INCOME PERSONS FINANCIALLY UNABLE TO AFFORD SUCH SERVICES AND SUPPORT PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE LEGAL ASSISTANCE TO LOW INCOME PERSONS. TO PROVIDE SUCH SERVICES PARTICULARLY ENGAGING IN IMPACT LITIGATION SJLP SEEKS TO TO ALLEVIATE THE BARRIERS CREATED BY ARREST AND CONVICTION RECORDS AND REQUIREMENTS FOR INDIVIDUALS SEEKING EMPLOYMENT AND OTHER BENEFITS OR RIGHTS SUCH AS LICENSING HOUSING AND OTHER MATTERS. SUCH LITIGATION MAY INVOLVE CHALLENGES TO WIDE BASED POLICIES FOLLOWED BY THE STATE IN EXCLUDING PERSONS FROM EMPLOYMENT OR OTHER BENEFITS AND IN MAINTAINING AND DISSEMINATING RECORDS OF CRIMINAL ARRESTS OR CONVICTIONS.

AOUON V HAMRICK: THE SOCLAL JUSTICE LAW PROJECT "SJLP" SERVES AS CO-COUNSEL IN HAMRICK THAT CHALLENGES THE POLICY AND PRACTICE OF A COURT IN NOT DESTROYING THE RECORDS OF CERTAIN ARRESTS AND CONVICTIONS IN LISTING THE DATE OF BIRTH OF PERSONS ARRESTED AND IN ALERTERING SOME ARREST OR CONVICTION RECORDS BY PROVIDING POTENTIAL EMPLOYERS WITH DOCUMENTS IN WHICH THE COURT USES BLACK MARKS TO "BLACK OUT" INFORMATION THAT IS PREJUDIICIAL AND MAY NOT BE LAWFULLY DISCLOSED. SUBSTANTIAL TIME IN 2023 WAS SPENT DEVELOPING THE MATTER FOR TRIAL INCLUDING DEPOSITIONS AND REQUESTS FOR PRODUCTION.
