THE LATINO CENTER OF ART AND CULTURE IS MULTI-DISCIPLINARY CULTURAL CENTER AND PUBLIC SPACE SERVING THE SACRAMENTO COMMUNITY BY OFFERING LATINO, CHICANO AND NATIVE ARTS PROGRAMMING, ART EDUCATION WORKSHOPS AND A COMMUNITY GATHERING PLACE. LCAC IS A CENTER OF CULTURAL PRIDE, SELF- GOVERNANCE, SELF-EXPRESSION AND COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT THROUGH THE ARTS.

THE LATINO CENTER OF ART AND CULTURE IS SACRAMENTO'S SECOND OLDEST ARTS ORGANIZATION. OUR PROGRAMS SERVE LOW TO MODERATE INCOME LATINO FAMILIES WHO SEEK CULTURAL ENRICHMENT EXPERIENCES THAT REFLECT THEIR HISTORY AND HERITAGE. MOST OF OUR EVENTS AND PROGRAMS ARE FREE OR VERY LOW COST. LCAC IS LOCATED IN A FORMERLY UNDERUTILIZED MAINTENANCE BUILDING IN SACRAMENTO'S MILLER PARK. ALONG WITH OUR POPULAR EVENT PROGRAMMING, WE OFFER LOW-COST STUDIO AND EXHIBITION SPACE TO LOCAL ARTISTS, AND ORGANIZE VISUAL ART INSTALLATIONS, SMALL CONCERTS, AND CULTURAL GATHERINGS. OUR PROGRAMS SERVE ALL ETHNIC GROUPS, GENDERS, SEXUAL ORIENTATIONS, RELIGIONS, AGES, CLASS BACKGROUNDS, ABILITIES AND CITIZENSHIP STATUSES. THE EVENTS ARE WELL POPULATED BY SMALL ENTREPRENEURS, PEOPLE WHO MAKE AND SELL ARTS AND CRAFTS AT EVERY EVENT. LCAC PROGRAMS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS 2021-22: DURING FY 21-22 OUR PROGRAMS ACCOUNTED FOR THE ONGOING COVID HEALTH CONCERNS BY CONDUCTING MOST OF OUR PROGRAMMING OUTDOORS. CONCERTS AT THE COMEDOR DE AMOR - SEPTEMBER 2021: THESE SERIES OF OUTDOOR SMALL CONCERTS, BROUGHT ARTISTS AND COMMUNITY TOGETHER IN THE EVENINGS TO ENJOY LIVE MUSIC, DANCE, AND BUILD CONNECTIONS. LCAC'S EL PANTEN DE SACRAMENTO/DIA DE LOS MUERTOS (OCTOBER, 2021) WAS THE REGION'S LARGEST AND MOST WELL ATTENDED CELEBRATION OF DAY OF THE DEAD. DIA DE LOS MUERTOS IS ONE OF MEXICO'S MOST IMPORTANT TRADITIONS AND HAS BECOME MORE POPULAR IN THE UNITED STATES. IN MEXICO FAMILIES GATHER TOGETHER AT GRAVEYARDS TO HONOR THEIR LOVED ONES WHO HAVE PASSED ON. DURING OUR THREE- DAY EL PANTEN DE SACRAMENTO CELEBRATION, THOUSANDS OF MULTIGENERATIONAL FAMILIES EXPERIENCES A CULTURAL IMMERSION THROUGHOUT OUR PROGRAMMING. FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS VIEWED OVER FORTY FAMILY CREATED ALTARES - MEMORIALS CREATED TO HONOR THEIR DEPARTED LOVED ONES. THE THREE-DAY PROGRAM INCLUDED LIVE MUSIC AND DANCE WITH A SATURDAY NIGHT PROCESSION MOJIGANGAS, GIANT STREET PUPPETS. MASK-MAKING AND SUGAR SKULL DECORATING WERE OFFERED DURING THE THREE DAYS. LOCAL ARTISANS OFFERED HANDMADE CRAFTS. OUR DIA DE LOS MUERTOS ATTRACTS OVER 11,000 PEOPLE OVER A THREE DAY PERIOD. LA PASTORELA DE SACTOWN DECEMBER 2021 - PASTORELAS ARE A MEXICAN HOLIDAY TRADITION. PASTORELAS ARE HUMOROUS MORALITY TALES OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL WITH DEVILS AND ANGELS IN A SECULAR MIX OF THEATER AND PAGEANT. OUR 2021 PASTORELA WAS PERFORMED OUTDOORS AT OUR FACILITY. OVER 500 AUDIENCE MEMBERS ATTENDED THE PRODUCTION IN A COMBINATION OF COMPLEMENTARY AND PAID TICKETS. DIA DEL NINO APRIL 2022 OFFERED FREE ART WORKSHOPS TO CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES AT OUR PARK LOCATION. APPROXIMATELY 300 CHILDREN AND FAMILY MEMBERS ATTENDED. FIESTA DE FRIDA JUNE 2022 - FREE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY, FIESTA DE FRIDA FEATURED A VARIETY OF LOCAL ARTISTS, DANCERS, AND CREATIVE COLLABORATORS FOR A DAY THAT CELEBRATES AND HONOR THE LEGENDARY ARTIST FRIDA KAHLO. THE FRIDA LOOK-ALIKE CONTEST ENCOURAGED ADULTS AND CHILDREN TO INTERPRET A PAINTING IN COSTUME, DRESS IN ONE OF THE KAHLOS MANY ICONIC STYLES OR JUST SHOW THEIR INNER FRIDA. EXHIBITIONS FEBRUARY - DECEMBER 2021-22 - THE CENTER ORGANIZED AND INSTALLED FOUR VISUAL ART EXHIBITIONS IN OUR MILLER PARK GALLERY SPACE. EXHIBITIONS ARE FREE TO THE PUBLIC. ARTIST SERVICES PROGRAM IN 2021-2022 PROVIDED AN ARTIST WORKSPACE AND A NEW PRODUCTION ROOM THAT WAS CREATED WITH FUNDING FROM COVID GRANTS. DURING THE HOLIDAY MONTH OF DECEMBER, 2021 WE ORGANIZED AN OUTDOOR POP-UP MARKET SPACE FOR LOCAL ARTISANS.
