6TH STREET PLAYHOUSE PRODUCES PLAYS, MUSICALS, AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS THAT ARE OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY AND REACH DIVERSE COMMUNITIES.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
6TH STREET THEATER PRODUCES HIGH QUALITY THEATRICAL PRODUCTIONS TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC THROUGH THE USE OF TWO THEATRES. THE MAIN THEATER IS NAMED THE G.K. HARDT THEATRE AFTER A LOCAL BUSINESSMAN WHO CONTRIBUTED A GIFT OF $450,000 TOWARDS THE THEATER IN 2007. THE MAIN THEATER SEATS 184 AND INCLUDES DISABLED SEATING AND PHONIC EAR LOOP FOR THE HEARING IMPAIRED. THE STUDIO THEATRE IS AN INTIMATE AND FLEXIBLE SEAT BLACK BOX THEATER LOCATED NEXT DOOR TO THE G.K. HARDT THEATRE. THE STUDIO HOLDS FULL PRODUCTIONS OF CLASSICS, NEW WORKS AND THEATER THAT SHOWCASES CREATIVE RISK-TAKING.DUE TO THE COVID-19 GLOBAL PANDEMIC, THE THEATERS WERE CLOSED FOR LIVE PERFORMANCES WITH IN-PERSON AUDIENCES IN THE 2020-2021 SEASON. ALL OPERATIONS WERE SUSPENDED AND MOST OF THE EMPLOYEES WERE FURLOUGHED FROM MID-MARCH 2020 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2020 WHILE THE BOARD AND MANAGEMENT PLANNED OPERATIONAL CHANGES TO RESPOND TO THE PANDEMIC WHICH INCLUDED NEW SOCIAL DISTANCING PROCEDURES AND VIRTUAL PERFORMANCE PRODUCTIONS. THE ORGANIZATION GRADUALLY RESTORED EMPLOYEES BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 2020 AND JUNE 30, 2021 AS WE PRODUCED AND RECORDED PERFORMANCES IN THE MAIN THEATER WITH LIMITED CAST MEMBERS, AND MADE THE PERFORMANCES AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC VIA ON DEMAND VIDEO. FOUR VIRTUAL SHOWS PLUS 2 SPECIAL EVENT VIRTUAL PRODUCTIONS WERE HELD IN THE 2020-2021 SEASON. 1,936 TICKETS WERE SOLD FOR THESE SHOWS.
6TH STREET THEATER PROVIDES EDUCATIONAL AND ARTISTIC OUTREACH CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS OF ALL AGES AND LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE THROUGH THE SCHOOL OF DRAMA. YOUTH - YOUTH CLASSES ARE FOR CHILDREN AGES 2 - 12 YEARS OLD. THESE CLASSES ARE DESIGNED TO FOSTER AN INTEREST IN THEATER ARTS, DEEPEN CONNECTIONS BETWEEN FAMILY MEMBERS AND COMMUNITIES, AND PROVIDE TOOLS FOR SELF EXPRESSION.TEEN - TEEN CLASSES ARE FOR TEENS 13-19 YEARS OLD. THESE CLASSES ARE DESIGNED TO SUPPORT AND FOSTER THE DEVELOPMENT OF YOUNG ARTISTS, HELP TEENAGERS ACKNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTAND THEIR COMPLICATED WORLDS THROUGH SELF AWARENESS AND A DEEPENED CONNECTION WITH THEIR PEERS, AND HELP THEM DEVELOP TOOLS FOR CONFIDENCE AND PROBLEM SOLVING.ADULT - ADULT CLASSES PROVIDE A PLACE TO EXPLORE, STRENGTHEN SKILLS, AND GROW AS ARTISTS AND PEOPLE.SENIORS - CLASSES FOR SENIORS, AGES 55 YEARS OLD AND OVER, ARE DESIGNED TO HELP TRANSFORM NEGATIVE ATTITUDES TOWARDS AGING TO A NEW VISION OF CONTINUOUS GROWTH, AND TO HONOR AND CELEBRATE THE SHARING OF RICH AND VARIED EXPERIENCES OF OLDER ADULTS.DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, ALL SENIOR CLASSES WERE CANCELLED AND EDUCATIONAL OPERATIONS WERE SUSPENDED UNTIL DECEMBER 2020. THE SCHOOL OF DRAMA RESTARTED ITS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM CLASSES IN DECEMBER 2020 IN AN ONLINE FORMAT USING ZOOM. IN PERSON CLASSES WERE REINSTATED IN JUNE 2021. IN THE 2020-2021 SEASON, 4 ADULT CLASSES WERE HELD WITH A TOTAL ATTENDANCE OF 14 ADULTS, AND 28 YOUTH AND TEEN CLASSES WERE HELD WITH A TOTAL ATTENDANCE OF 476 STUDENTS.
