OUR MISSION IS TO EDUCATE AND INTERPRET THE MARITIME HISTORY OF OUR COASTAL COMMUNITY AND TO ADVOCATE FOR THE PRESERVATION OF OUR LOCAL HISTORIC STRUCTURES. WE OWN AND OPERATE THE GRAYS HARBOR LIGHTHOUSE AND OWN THE COLLECTIONS OF AND OPERATE THE WESTPORT MARITIME MUSEUM.

SINCE 1984 WITH A CONSISTENT HISTORY OF GROWTH IN SERVICE TO ITS MISSION THE WESTPORT SOUTH BEACH HISTORICAL SOCIETY HAS DEVELOPED EXHIBITS AND EDUCATION AROUND ITS WESTPORT MARITIME MUSEUM DESTRUCTION ISLAND LENS AND GRAYS HARBOR LIGHTHOUSE. HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL GRAYS HARBOR COAST GUARD STATION THE WESTPORT MARITIME MUSEUM ALONG WITH ITS COAST GUARD HERITAGE REMAINS THE HEART OF WESTPORT. IN ITS ONGOING MISSION THE SOCIETY IS A KEY ELEMENT IN LOCAL TOURISM AND EDUCATION AND IN CONTINUING ITS OUTREACH IN 2021 DESPITE BEING CLOSED FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS DUE TO COVID-19 HOSTED 10,017 VISITORS FROM 45 STATES AND 7 COUNTRIES. WHILE BASED IN A SMALL ECONOMICALLY DEPRESSED COMMUNITY THE SOCIETY HAS 150 SUPPORTING MEMBERS WHO ALONG WITH FRIENDS OF THE SOCIETY DONATED OVER 5,708 VOLUNTEER HOURS OPERATING THE WESTPORT MARITIME MUSEUM DESTRUCTION ISLAND LENS HALL AND GRAYS HARBOR LIGHTHOUSE ALONG WITH PROVIDING EDUCATION AND SERVICE EVENTS. THE SOCIETY IS CURRENTLY IN THE RESTORATION PROCESS OF THE GRAYS HARBOR LIGHTHOUSE THIS ICONIC BUILDING IS THE TALLEST LIGHTHOUSE IN WASHINGTON STATE AND THE THIRD TALLEST LIGHTHOUSE ON THE PACIFIC COAST OF THE UNITED STATES.
