Describe the Organization's Mission:

Part 3 - Line 1

MEH IS A CIVIC/SOCIAL WELFARE ORGANIZATION ORGANIZED AND OPERATED TO SUPPORT A REFERENDUM PETITION EFFORT TO QUALIFY A MEASURE FOR THE BALLOT IN THE CITY OF LIVERMORE, CA AND TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC REGARDING THE MEASURE, WHICH INVOLVED APPROVAL BY THE LIVERMORE CITY COUNCIL OF AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CONTROVERSIAL DEVELOPMENT OF 130 UNITS OF WORKFORCE HOUSING IN THE CENTER OF DOWNTOWN LIVERMORE, INSTEAD OF A LARGER NUMBER OF HOUSING UNITS ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE APPROVED SITE.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

MEH CIRCULATED A REFERENDUM PETITION AND OBTAINED SUFFICIENT SIGNATURES TO QUALIFY THE MEASURE FOR THE LIVERMORE, CA NOVEMBER 2022 LOCAL ELECTION BALLOT. THE REFERENDUM SEEKS TO OVERTURN THROUGH VOTER ACTION THE DECISION OF THE LIVERMORE CITY COUNCIL APPROVING THE DEVELOPMENT OF 130 UNITS OF WORKFORCE HOUSING IN THE CENTER OF DOWNTOWN LIVERMORE. THIS WAS A CONTROVERSIAL COMMUNITY ISSUE AND MANY CITIZENS ENVISION AND SUPPORT OTHER USES, SUCH AS AN EXTRAORDINARY PARK ON THAT SITE WITH ADDITIONAL HOUSING UNITS ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE APPROVED SITE. AFTER RAISING AND EXPENDING SUBSTANTIAL FUNDS TO OBTAIN ENOUGH SIGNATURES TO QUALIFY THE REFERENDUM FOR THE BALLOT, THE PETITION WAS CHALLENGED LEGALLY BY THE CITY COUNCIL. MEH FILED SUIT AGAINST THE CITY TO REQUEST THAT THE CITY PLACE THE MEASURE ON THE BALLOT. THE LIVERMORE CITY COUNCIL PREVENTED THE REFERENDUM FROM BEING PLACED ON THE NOVEMBER 2022 BALLOT AND THE MATTER HAS INSTEAD BEEN PENDING IN THE COURTS. THE LAWSUIT IS NEXT EXPECTED TO BE HEARD BEFORE THE CALIFORNIA COURT OF APPEAL, WHICH WILL DECIDE WHETHER THE REFERENDUM CAN GO FORWARD. MEH CONTINUES TO ADVOCATE FOR THE RIGHTS OF THE PUBLIC CITIZENRY OF LIVERMORE TO DECIDE THE MERITS OF THE HOUSING PROPOSAL AND THE ULTIMATE USE TO WHICH THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT SITE SHOULD BE MADE.
