THEATER COMPANY: THROUGH ACTS ON STAGE THEATER, AUDIENCES CAN EXPECT TO REGULARLY EXPERIENCE A SEASON OF SMALL TO MEDIUM CAST SHOWS FROM SEPTEMBER TO MAY. THIS FISCAL YEAR, WE PRODUCED TWO SHOWS: THAT TALK YOU DO IN THE FALL OF 2022, AND PIPELINE IN THE SPRING OF 2023. THAT TALK YOU DO IS THE DEBUT ONE-WOMAN SHOW OF TIA NACHÉ FIELDS-YARBROUGH. "THAT TALK YOU DO" FOLLOWS FIELDS-YARBROUGH THROUGH HER OWN LIFE AND YOUTH IN SEATTLE AS SHE EXPLORES FAITH, BLACKNESS, AND WOMANHOOD THROUGH SONG, SPOKEN WORD, HIP-HOP, AND '90S R&B. FOR 20 YEARS, TIA NACHÉ HAS BEEN A FIXTURE ON THE MIC AS AN AWARD WINNING POET AND SPOKEN WORD ARTIST. DOMINIQUE MORISSEAU'S PIPELINE WAS DIRECTED BY ISIAH ANDERSON, JR. AND STARRED ROSA NICOLE BOOKER, JOSIAH WEBB, JEREMY RUBIN, STACIE LATIMER, JEFFREY L. CHEATHAM II, AND DAIRYONA THOMAS. "PIPELINE" TELLS THE STORY OF NYA, AN INNER-CITY PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHER, WHO IS COMMITTED TO HER STUDENTS BUT DESPERATE TO RESCUE HER SON OMARI FROM A SYSTEM SHE KNOWS ISN'T MEANT FOR HIM TO THRIVE. MEANWHILE, THE SHADOWS OF MISMANAGED RELATIONSHIPS ARE HARD TO MISS AND IMPOSSIBLE TO IGNORE!
OTHER PROJECTS: IN ADDITION TO OUR TRADITIONAL THEATER OFFERINGS, WE OFFER VIDEO CONTENT PRODUCTION SERVICES, PROGRAMS THAT DEVELOP ARTISTS (OF ALL LEVELS) IN EVERY DISCIPLINE OF THE PERFORMING ARTS (MUSIC, DANCE, PERFORMANCE, STAGE CRAFT, WRITING, ETC.), ART-BASED INTERACTIVE WORKSHOPS RE: RACIAL EQUITY AND SOCIAL JUSTICE AND IN-THE-MOMENT / NIMBLE SERVICES SUCH AS SEASONAL EVENTS, AFTER-SCHOOL CLUBS AND ARTIST CONSULTATION. THIS FISCAL YEAR OUR OTHER PROJECTS INCLUDED A YOUTH CHRISTMAS CHOIR THAT PERFORMED AROUND THE REGION AT HOLIDAY AND POP-UP EVENTS.
TEEN SUMMER MUSICAL: THE TEEN SUMMER MUSICAL IS A SIGNATURE SEATTLE PROGRAM THAT HAS LIT UP THE LARGEST STAGES IN THE CITY FOR THE LAST 25 YEARS. IN ADDITION TO CREATING STUNNING FEELS AND VIBES, THE TSM SERVES AS AN EXCELLENT WAY TO INSTILL CHARACTER AND WORK ETHIC IN OUR YOUNG PERFORMERS AND FUTURE LEADERS. TEEN SUMMER MUSICAL HIGHLIGHTS SOME OF THE BRIGHTEST YOUTH STARS IN SUMMER PERFORMANCES OF CLASSIC STORIES WITH TIMELY SOCIAL JUSTICE THEMES. THIS YEAR TSM RETURNED TO THE LIVE STAGE WITH THE GREATEST STORY EVER WOVE, WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY ISIAH ANDERSON JR., WITH MUSICAL DIRECTION FROM CEDRIC PAUL THOMAS, AND CHOREOGRAPHY BY MYCHAEL HODGES. SUMMARY: OVERWHELMED BY A LEGACY THAT SEEMS TO BE FADING, MUSEUM OWNER MS. BANKS DESPERATELY TRIES TO KEEP TRADITIONS ALIVE WHILE RELUCTANTLY EMBRACING A FORMIDABLE FUTURE. A FUTURE THAT DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE ABOUT THE SENTIMENTAL MEMORIES OF DAYS GONE BY. RENAISSANCE 20: THIS YEAR WE WERE THRILLED TO LAUNCH RENAISSANCE 20, OUR YOUNG ARTISTS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM, LED BY SAM TOWNSEND JR. GROUP CLASSES IN BEGINNING PIANO, VOICE, AND ACTING WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE COMING SCHOOL YEAR. THIS IS ANOTHER EXCITING STEP INTO OUR VISION TO BE A NEW ERA RENAISSANCE WHERE CREATIVITY CREATES CHANGE!
