WE PARTNER LOCALLY TO ENSURE THAT GIRLS HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE, TOOLS, MENTORSHIP AND SUPPORT TO CONFIDENTLY DESIGN THEIR OWN FUTURES.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

KISA PROJECT IS A TWO-YEAR LEADERSHIP COURSE LED LOCALLY IN TANZANIA BY GLAMI. THE PROGRAM PREPARES GIRLS IN THEIR LAST TWO YEARS OF SECONDARY SCHOOL TO ATTEND UNIVERSITY AND CREATE POSITIVE SOCIAL CHANGE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. IN 2022, 100% OF KISA SCHOLARS PASSED THE EXAM REQUIRED TO CONTINUE TO TERTIARY EDUCATION. DARING GIRLS HAS HISTORICALLY BEEN KISA'S PRIMARY FUNDING SOURCE, BUT GRANTORS HAVE INCREASINGLY PROVIDED FUNDING DIRECTLY TO GLAMI, UNDERSCORING THE STRENGTH OF THIS PROGRAMMING AND HOW IT IS MANAGED BY LOCAL LEADERSHIP. HOWEVER, AS THE MAIN FUNDRAISING ARM FOR BOTH ORGANIZATIONS, DARING GIRLS ABSORBS THE MAJORITY OF FUNDRAISING AND ADMINISTRATIVE EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH THE GRANTS, WHICH UNFAVORABLY SKEWS DARING GIRLS' FUNCTIONAL EXPENSE RATIOS.

BINTI SHUPAVU IS A FOUR-YEAR LIFE SKILLS COURSE LED LOCALLY IN TANZANIA BY GLAMI FOR LOWER SECONDARY SCHOOL GIRLS COVERING TOPICS SUCH AS STUDY SKILLS, PERSONAL LEADERSHIP, HEALTH, AND SELF-CONFIDENCE. IT IS TAILORED TO ADDRESS KEY CHALLENGES THAT LEAD TO HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF VULNERABLE GIRLS DROPPING OUT OF SECONDARY SCHOOL EACH YEAR, WITH THE GOAL OF INCREASING THEIR GRADUATION RATES. LIKE KISA PROJECT, BINTI SHUPAVU HAS BEEN PARTIALLY FUNDED BY GRANTS MADE DIRECTLY TO GLAMI, WHILE DARING GIRLS ABSORBS THE ADDED COSTS OF FUNDRAISING AND ADMINISTRATION OF THESE GRANTS. IN 2022, 96% OF GRADUATING BINTI SHUPAVU SCHOLARS PASSED THEIR FINAL FORM 4 EXAM, SURPASSING THE NATIONAL AVERAGE PASS RATE BY 8%.

IN ADDITION TO KISA PROJECT AND BINTI SHUPAVU, DARING GIRLS SUPPORTS A HANDFUL OF SMALLER LEGACY PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS IN TANZANIA. DARING GIRLS PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS IN SECONDARY SCHOOL AND UNIVERSITY AND FUNDS A SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM FOR A PRIMARY SCHOOL IN A RURAL MAASAI COMMUNITY.
