PURE JUSTICE SEEKS TO EMPOWER, INSPIRE AND ACTIVATE ITS MEMBERS AND COMMUNITY SUPPORTERS TO CHAMPION RESTORATIVE JUSTICE PRACTICES, EQUITY IN ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES, AND TRANSFORMATION TO THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND ECONOMIC STRUCTURES OF HARRIS COUNTY FOR THE UPLIFTING OF MARGINALIZED INDIVIDUALS.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZING: COMMUNITY ORGANIZING IS THE PROCESS OF BUILDING POWER THROUGH INVOLVING A CONSTITUENCY IN IDENTIFYING PROBLEMS THEY SHARE AND THE SOLUTIONS TO THOSE PROBLEMS THAT THEY DESIRE. THROUGH THIS PROCESS THE COMMUNITY EDUCATES EACH OTHER, DECISION MAKERS, AND OTHER VITAL STAKEHOLDERS.
VOTER REGISTRATION: IN AN EFFORT TO ENSURE THAT OUR COMMUNITIES ARE CIVICALLY ENGAGED, PURE JUSTICE ASSISTS COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO BECOME VOLUNTEER DEPUTY VOTER REGISTRARS AND HOST EVENTS TO HELP OTHERS TO GET REGISTERED TO VOTE. IN 2022 PURE JUSTICE HOSTED OR PARTICIPATED IN 135 VOTER EDUCATION EVENTS. POLICE ACCOUNTABILITY AND COMMUNITY SAFETY: DEVELOPED A COMMUNITY SAFETY AND POLICING SURVEY TO CAPTURE COMMUNITY NEEDS. CAPTURED 400 SURVEYS IN 2022, IDENTIFIED 3 POLICE ACCOUNTABILITY DEMANDS FROM OVER-POLICED COMMUNITIES, HOSTING 5 POLICING/COMMUNITY SAFETY EVENTS. JUSTICE IN ACTION: BUILT A COALITION OF SUPPORT FOR MARVIN GUY, ASSISTED IN GETTING THE DEATH PENALTY REMOVED AS A SENTENCING OPTION FOR HIM AND HELPED SECURE HIS FIRST BAIL REDUCTION HEARING. FAIR CHANCE HOUSING: SURVEYED 250 RENTAL PROPERTIES IN HARRIS COUNTY TO IDENTIFY THOSE FRIENDLY TO JUSTICE-INVOLVED RESIDENTS. COMPLETED IMPACT REPORT FINDING THAT OF THE PROPERTIES INTERVIEWED, 70% WOULD AUTOMATICALLY DENY ANYONE WITH A FELONY RECORD.
FELLOWSHIPS: THE PURE JUSTICE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM IS A PAID HANDS-ON TRAINING PROGRAM TO ASSIST OUR MEMBERS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN GAINING IN-DEPTH EXPERIENCE IN GRASSROOTS ORGANIZING AND LEADERSHIP. IT CONSISTS OF CIVIC EDUCATION, ORGANIZING TRAINING, AND FIELD PRACTICE THROUGH DIRECT IMMERSION IN LOCAL ISSUE CAMPAIGNS CENTERED AROUND SOCIAL JUSTICE.
CIVIC ENGAGEMENT: SUCCESSFULLY HELD 10 COMMUNITY MEETINGS, CONTACTED APPROXIMATELY 50,000 VOTERS TO HELP INCREASE VOTER TURNOUT, AND EDUCATED OVER 1500 INCARCERATED INDIVIDUALS ON THEIR RIGHTS TO VOTE IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.
