NATIONAL CENTER FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT (NCYD) PROVIDED EVIDENCE-BASED BEST PRACTICE CYCLING DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES FOR YOUTH 7-18 DURING THE PANDEMIC YEAR 2022. THESE ACTIVITIES INCLUDED STRENGTH TRAINING & YOGA (BOTH ONLINE/VIRTUAL & IN-PERSON); VIRTUAL CYCLING RIDES THROUGH SMART-TRAINER ONLINE RIDES; TRAINING & CERTIFICATION FOR WORKING WITH YOUNG KIDS IN SCHOOLS, AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS, & CAMPS/CLINICS (EMPLOYMENT); SMALL GROUP OUTDOOR FACILITATED RIDES; TRIPS TO DESTINATION CYCLING AREAS; SUPPORT AT LOCAL, REGIONAL, & NATIONAL RACING EVENTS; & VOLUNTEER SUPPORT FOR FOUR LOCAL NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS. IN ADDITION, VOLUNTEERS PROVIDED COACHING & MENTORSHIP FREE OF CHARGE TO SCHOOL-BASED CYCLING PROGRAMS & HELPED WITH AFTER SCHOOL CYCLING DEVELOPMENT FOR THE MINNESOTA CYCLING ASSOCIATION. ALL TOLD, NCYD PROVIDED ACTIVITIES & ACCESS TO SAFE SPACE FOR OVER 85 MEMBERS; SUPPORTED OVER 2,500 KIDS THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS & VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES; & FACILITATED OVER 90 HOURS OF ACTIVITY A MONTH, YEAR ROUND. NCYD ONLY CHARGED WHAT IT COST TO COVER FEES FOR SERVICE WHILE PROVIDING UP TO 20% SCHOLARSHIP/FREE SERVICES FOR THOSE WHO COULD NOT AFFORD TO PARTICIPATE REGARDLESS OF SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS. STAFF, COACHES, & MENTORS ALL COMPLETED BACKGROUND CHECKS, CONCUSSION, CPR, & FIRST AID TRAINING; UNDERWENT THREE HOURS OF SAFESPORT TRAINING; & 8-16 HOURS COACH CREDENTIALING.
