MOST REFUGEES WHO ARRIVE IN THE US COME TO FOUR STATES, ONE IS WASHINGTON. WHEN THEY ARRIVE, REFUGEE AND LOW-INCOME IMMIGRANT WOMEN ARE AMONG THE MOST VULNERABLE MEMBERS OF US SOCIETY,FACING REDUCED EMPLOYMENT PROSPECTS DUE TO CHILDCARE NEEDS, LACK OF EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT HISTORY, AND LANGUAGE BARRIERS. THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE FOR FOR REFUGEE WOMEN HOVERS AROUND 60%. THEY ARE OFTEN TARGETED BY EXPLOITATIVE PROFESSIONS. BUT FOR THOSE WITH SEWING SKILLS WHO WANT A SAFE WORKPLACE, RESETTLEMENT OFFICES KNOW RIGHT WHERE TO TAKE THEM: THE REFUGEE ARTISAN INITIATIVE (RAI) MAKER SPACE + CULTURAL CENTER.
