Part 3
HATCH DELIVERS ITS VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS AND PEER SUPPORT SERVICES TO YOUNG PEOPLE UNDER 25 - WITH A FOCUS ON LOW-INCOME YOUNG PARENTS WHO ARE TRANSITIONING OUT OF THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM, SURVIVORS OF COMMERCIAL SEXUAL EXPLOITATION AND SEX-TRAFFICKING AND YOUNG LGBTQ FAMILIES. HATCH PROVIDES THESE YOUNG PEOPLE WITH THE SKILLS TO SUPPORT THEMSELVES, THEIR FAMILIES, AND THEIR COMMUNITY. A HATCH DOULA ("PARENT'S HELPER") PROVIDES CONTINUOUS INFORMATIONAL, EMOTIONAL, PHYSICAL AND PRACTICAL SUPPORT TO FAMILIES THROUGH PREGNANCY, BIRTH, POSTPARTUM AND EARLY PARENTING. A DIFFERENT KIND OF DOULA SUPPORT, HATCH DOULA'S ARE NOT ALL ABOUT NATURAL CHILDBIRTH AND SUPPORT; THEY ARE ALL ABOUT MAKING SUPPORT SERVICES MORE ACCESSIBLE DURING PREGNANCY, BIRTH, POSTPARTUM AND EARLY PARENTING. THE KEY SECRET TO A HATCH DOULA IS BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS. HATCH DOULAS MAY NOT BE ABLE TO CHANGE THEIR PEERS' CIRCUMSTANCES, BUT THEIR TRAINING AND PRESENCE HELP NEW YOUNG PARENTS FIND THEIR WAY, THEIR VOICE AND THEIR STRENGTH. HATCH CURRENTLY RUNS 4 PROGRAMS: 9 MONTH BIRTH AND POSTPARTUM DOULA TRAINING (PERINATAL SUPPORT), NURTURING TOUCH TRAININGS (INFANT-PARENT BONDING), LITTLE ONES DOULA TRAINING (UNLICENSED CHILDCARE PROVIDERS) AND A STREET DOULA PROGRAM (OUTREACH AND PEER EDUCATION). THROUGH TRAININGS, PROVIDING PEER SUPPORT SERVICES AND OUTREACH/EDUCATION HATCH HAS REACHED OVER 300 FAMILIES, YOUNG PEOPLE, AND PROFESSIONALS.
