THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF GEOSCIENCE TEACHERS AIMS TO FOSTER IMPROVEMENT IN GEOSCIENCE TEACHING AT ALL LEVELS OF FORMAL AND INFORMAL INSTRUCTION, TO EMPHASIZE THE CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE EARTH SCIENCES, AND TO DISSEMINATE KNOWLEDGE IN THIS FIELD TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. IN SUPPORT OF ITS MISSION, NAGT OFFERS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMING NATIONALLY, INTERNATIONALLY, AND REGIONALLY THROUGH ITS SECTIONS; PUBLISHES THE "JOURNAL OF GEOSCIENCE EDUCATION" (JGE), CONTAINING RESEARCH ARTICLES ON GEOSCIENCE TEACHING AND LEARNING, AND "IN THE TRENCHES," A MAGAZINE OFFERING A FORUM FOR GEOSCIENCES EDUCATION DIALOG EDUCATION; MAINTAINS A WEBSITE WITH TEACHING RESOURCES; RECOGNIZES EXCELLENCE IN GEOSCIENCE EDUCATION THROUGH A SERIES OF AWARDS; COLLABORATES WITH OTHER PROFESSIONAL SOCIETIES TO ENHANCE "STEM" EDUCATION; DEVELOPS POSITION STATEMENTS ON ISSUES OF IMPORTANCE TO GEOSCIENCE EDUCATION; AND PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIPS AND INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS. NAGT COLLABORATES WITH THE "GEOSCIENCE EDUCATION DIVISION" OF THE "GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA" TO DEVELOP THE TECHNICAL PROGRAM FOR GEOSCIENCE EDUCATION AT THEIR ANNUAL MEETING AND CONTRIBUTES TO THE TECHNICAL PROGRAM OF THE "AMERICAN GEOPHYSICAL UNION."
