SPANNING THE IDAHO/MONTANA BORDER, THE 88,000 ACRE SCOTCHMAN PEAKS ROADLESS AREA IS OF THE LAST AND LARGEST WILD AREAS IN OUR REGION. WE CONDUCT EDUCATION, OUTREACH AND STEWARDSHIP ACTIVITIES TO PRESERVE THE RUGGED, SCENIC AND BIOLOGICALLY DIVERSE AND TO PASS ON A SCOTCHMAN PEAKS WILDERNESS FOR OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN. OUR OUTREACH, EDUCATION AND STEWARDSHIP EFFORTS HAVE RESULTED IN GROWING OUR SUPPORT AND ENGAGEMENT.OUR SUPPORT LIST HAS GROWN TO OVER 10,000 INDIVIDUALS, INCLUDING INDIVIDUALS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY. OVER 80% OF OUR SUPPORTERS ARE FROM THE REGION OF EASTERN WASHINGTON, NORTHERN IDAHO AND NORTHWESTERN MONTANA. OUR MOST EFFECTIVE FORM OF PRINTED COMMUNICATION REMAINS OUR NEWSLETTER. IT IS PUT OUT 3 TIMES A YEAR AND DISTRIBUTED AT EVENTS AND TO OVER 85 LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE REGION FROM SPOKANE TO LIBBY TO MISSOULA AND MANY POINTS IN BETWEEN WE ALSO DISTRIBUTE A WEEKLY EVENTS/UPDATES MESSAGE CALLED THE "INSIDER" VIA EMAIL TO OVER 1000 SUBSCRIBERS. BOTH THE PRINT AND EMAIL PUBLICATIONS ARE FREE AND OPEN TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO RECEIVE THEM. HIKES: OUR HIKES, TRAIL MAINTENANCE PROJECTS, WILDLIFE EDUCATION AND YOUTH EDUCATION ENGAGE BOTH A LARGE NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS AS WELL AS PARTICIPANTS IN ALL SEASONS. IN THE WINTER AND SUMMER OF 2021, OVER 190 INDIVIDUALS JOINED US ON ONE OF OUR HIKES. TRAIL PROJECTS: WE CONDUCTED 19 TRAIL PROJECTS WITH OVER 1,000 VOLUNTEER HOURS MAINTAINING ACCESS ON 8 DIFFERENT TRAILS TRAIL AMBASSADORS: OUR TRAIL AMBASSADOR PROGRAM HAD 41 VOLUNTEERS TALKING TO OVER 1,200 HIKERS ABOUT BEST BEHAVIOR AROUND MOUNTAIN GOATS TO AVOID WILDLIFE-HIKER CONFLICTS. WINTER TRACKS YOUTH EDUCATION: BECAUSE OF COVID, OUR "WINTER TRACKS" WILDLIFE CLASSES MOVED INDOORS TO A HYBRID HANDS ON / ZOOM SESSION. WE STILL ENGAGED OVER 300 STUDENTS FROM 15 CLASSES ACROSS TWO STATES.
