RESEARCH PROGRAMS:MOUNTAIN STUDIES INSTITUTE (MSI) CONNECTS SCIENTISTS AND STAKEHOLDERS ACROSS THE SAN JUAN MOUNTAIN REGION TO APPLY THE RESULTS OF SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR LOCAL COMMUNITIES. TO THAT END, MSI PERFORMS AND FACILITATES RESEARCH WHICH EXPLORES SOLUTIONS TO NATURAL RESOURCE ISSUES THAT IMPACT THE REGION AND BEYOND. THESE ISSUES INCLUDE:AIR AND WATER QUALITY, CLIMATE VARIABILITY AND CHANGE, CHANGES IN BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY AND FOREST HEALTH AND THE EFFECTS OF TRANSITIONING FROM EXTRACTION ECONOMIES.


COMMUNITY SCIENCE AND STEWARDSHIP PROGRAMS:MSI SPONSORS COMMUNITY SCIENCE AND STEWARDSHIP PROGRAMS ANNUALLY FOR A VARIETY OF AUDIENCES AND AGES, INCLUDING K-12 EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION, CITIZEN SCIENCE, FIELD TOURS, CONFERENCES, WEBINARS, COLLEGE COURSES, WORKSHOPS, SUMMER CAMPS AND STEWARDSHIP PROJECTS FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS, RESEARCHERS AND PRACTITIONERS.
