THE CUBAN MUSEUM WAS FORMED IN SEPTEMBER 1996 AS A NOT-FOR-PROFIT FLORIDA ORGANIZATION WHOSE PRIMARY PURPOSE IS TO OWN AND OPERATE A MUSEUM AND ALL THINGS RELATED THERETO AS A VEHICLE TO PRESERVE THE CUBAN CULTURAL HERITAGE IN EXILE WHICH STARTED WITH THE CUBAN EXODUS IN 1959 AND TO INTERPRET PAST CUBAN CULTURE IN THE CONTEXT OF PRESENT EXILE EXPERIENCE AND PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL AND ESTHETIC-RELATED OPPORTUNITIES TO THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE. THE ORGANIZATION IS A CULTURALLY-SPECIFIC MUSEUM OF MEMORY, DEDICATED TO SHOWCASING AND DOCUMENTING THE HISTORY, CULTURE, AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE CUBAN EXILE COMMUNITY THROUGH EXHIBITIONS AND PROGRAMMING IN THE ARTS AND THE HUMANITIES. THE CUBAN MUSEUM MISSION IS TO TELL THE STORY OF THE CUBAN DIASPORA, THROUGH THE EYES OF ITS GREATES ARTIST, THINKERS, AND CREATORS.

TO COLLECT AND PRESERVE RELEVANT CULTURAL DOCUMENTS, ARTIFACTS AND ART WORKS THAT HELP TO DOCUMENT AND INTERPRET THE CULTURAL HERITAGE AND LEGACY OF CUBANS IN THE DIASPORA. TO INTERPRET CUBAN CULTURE WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF THE EXILES' EXPERIENCE, EMPHASIZING THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MULTI-ETHNIC, MULTI-NATIONAL COMMUNITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA. TO PROVIDE AND PRESENT MULTI-DISCIPLINARY AND INTERACTIVE EDUCATIONAL AND AESTHETIC PROGRAMS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ART AND HISTORICAL EXHIBITIONS, LECTURES, PANEL DISCUSSIONS, CONFERENCES, BOOK PRESENTATIONS, FILM, MUSIC AND THEATRICAL EVENTS, AS WELL AS SCHOOL PROGRAMS TO VISITING STUDENTS, TO THE GENERAL AND VISITING SOUTH FLORIDA PUBLIC, RELATIVE TO THE VARIOUS ASPECTS OF CUBAN DIASPORIC CULTURE.
