THE HOSPITALITY HOUSES OF METHODIST MEDICAL CENTER PROVIDE TEMPORARY LODGING FOR PATIENTS AND FAMILIES WHO MUST TRAVEL LONG DISTANCES FOR TREATMENT AT METHODIST MEDICAL CENTER OR THOMPSON CANCER SURVIVAL CENTER AT METHODIST. THE THREE HOMES OFFER 12 FULLY FURNISHED APARTMENTS; SHARED KITCHEN, DINING, LAUNDRY AND FAMILY ROOMS; STOCKED PANTRIES; TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE AS NEEDED; AND FREE PARKING. THE PROGRAM IS SUPPORTED ENTIRELY BY CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS.GUESTS OF THE HOSPITALITY HOUSES STAY AS LONG AS THEY NEED, FREE OF CHARGE. SINCE THE FIRST HOUSE OPENED IN 1997, THOUSANDS OF GUESTS HAVE RECEIVED LODGING. IN 2021, THOUGH USAGE WAS LESS THAN NORMAL DUE TO THE CONTINUING EFFECTS OF THE PANDEMIC, THE HOUSES SERVED 103 GUESTS AND PROVIDED 1,502 NIGHTS OF STAY FOR PATIENTS AND FAMILIES RECEIVING CANCER TREATMENT, ICU/CCU CARE, AND WOUND CARE AT METHODIST. OF NOTE IN 2021, 18 OF THE 103 GUESTS STAYED 30 DAYS OR LONGER AT THE HOSPITALITY HOUSES DUE TO MORE SEVERE ILLNESS AND/OR PANDEMIC-DELAYED CARE RESULTING IN LONGER AND MORE COMPLICATED MEDICAL TREATMENT.IN 2021, THE HOSPITALITY HOUSES WELCOMED PATIENTS AND GUESTS FROM 15 COUNTIES ACROSS TENNESSEE, AS WELL AS NINE OTHER STATES.
CONTRIBUTIONS FROM THE COVENANT HEALTH'S ANNUAL EMPLOYEE GIVING CAMPAIGN SUPPORT THE JACK SILLS CHAPLAIN'S BENEVOLENCE FUND AT METHODIST MEDICAL CENTER THAT PROVIDES EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE FOR EMPLOYEES, PATIENTS, AND PATIENT FAMILIES IN TIMES OF CRISIS. IN 2021, THE FUND ASSISTED 192 PATIENTS AND 41 EMPLOYEES WITH EMERGENCY AID FOR FOOD, HOUSING, TRANSPORTATION, MEDICATIONS/MEDICAL EQUIPMENT, FUNERAL EXPENSES, AND UTILITIES.
MMC FOUNDATION FUNDED TWO PIECES OF CAPITAL EQUIPMENT FOR STAFF EDUCATION AT METHODIST MEDICAL CENTER IN 2021. BOTH TRAINING MANIKINS OFFER CLINICIANS HANDS-ON LEARNING EXPERIENCES. THE CRITICAL THINKING AND SIMULATION TRAINING MANIKIN "ALEX" ALLOWS NURSING STAFF TO PRACTICE A VARIETY OF PATIENT INTERACTIONS, INCLUDING IV PLACEMENT, WITH VARYING LEVELS OF DIFFICULTY. THE CORMAN ADULT FEEDING TRAINER ENHANCES TRAINING AND PROFICIENCY IN NASOGASTRIC AND NASOJEJUNAL FEEDING TUBE AND GASTROSTOMY DEVICE PLACEMENT AND MANAGEMENT.
OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES INCLUDE PROVIDING FUNDING FOR THE CANCER PROGRAM AND THE FAMILY BIRTHING CENTER.
