PUBLIC POLICY PROGRAMS IN ORDER TO PROTECT & PROMOTE THE AGRICULTURE INDUSTRY THE SHELBY CO FARM BUREAU THROUGH ITS STRUCTURE OF VOLUNTEER LEADERS SUPPORTS PUBLIC POLICY EFFORTS AT THE LOCAL, STATE & NATIONAL LEVEL. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH BOTH LEGISLATIVE & REGULATORY MONITORING COMMUNICATIONS WITH MEMBERS & PUBLIC AWARENESS PROGRAMS ABOUT FARMING & RURAL LIFE & PROVIDE INFORMATION ABOUT THE AGRICULTURE INDUSTRY. VOLUNTEER BOARD MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN THE SPONSORSHIP OF MEET THE CANDIDATE ACTIVITIES & YEARLY POLICY MEETINGS WITH THEIR LEGISLATORS TO EDUCATE THEM ABOUT AG POLICY & HOW THE INDUSTRY IS IMPACTED BY LAWMAKERS.
AGRICULTURE LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES THE SHELBY COUNTY FARM BUREAU STRUCTURE OF ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP PROVIDES MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR MEMBER LEADERS TO KEEP ABREAST OF ISSUES THAT AFFECT AGRICULTURE. LOCAL BOARD MEMBERS ATTEND ORGANIZATIONAL & EDUCATIONAL MEETINGS EACH MONTH. THEY PARTICIPATE IN OTHER LOCAL AGRICULTURAL, CIVIC, & COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS. LEADERS ATTEND DISTRICT, STATE & NATIONAL CONFERENCES TO NETWORK WITH FARMERS & OTHER AGRICULTURALISTS TO LEARN ABOUT CURRENT ISSUES FACING AGRICULTURE. A HIGHLY DEVELOPED COMMITTEE STRUCTURE PROVIDES LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR MEMBERS THROUGH MEETINGS, REGULAR COMMUNICATIONS, AND AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES.
YOUTH AGRICULTURE EDUCATION SCFB SPONSORS A JR HEIFER SHOW FOR 4-H AND FFA STUDENTS AT THE DELTA FAIR HELD AT TEH AGRICENTER INTERNATIONAL. STUDENTS TRAIN AND SHOW THEIR HEIFERS FOR PRIZES AND SCHLORSHIP MONEY. STUDENTS ALSO RECEIVED AGRICULTURE EXPERIENCE CREDITS WHICH HELPS THEM COMPETE FOR OTHER AWARDS & SCHLORSHIPS. SCFB COSPONSORED A STUDENT ON A TRIP TO VIEW AG IN EUROPE WITH NATIONAL FFA. THE SCFB MADE DONATIONS TO THE TN FOUNDATION FOR AG IN THE CLASSROOM TO PROMOTE AGRICULTURE LITERACY IN TN AND SPONSORED SENDING A STUDENT TO THE NATIONAL LEADERSHIP FORUM AT HARDING UNIVERSITY.
