THE JUNIOR LEAGUE'S PRIMARY PURPOSE IS TO PROMOTE VOLUNTARISM, DEVELOP THE POTENTIAL OF WOMEN AND IMPROVE THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THE EFFECTIVE ACTION AND LEADERSHIP OF TRAINED VOLUNTEERS.ITS PURPOSE IS EXCLUSIVELY EDUCATIONAL AND CHARITABLE.

THE JLPB MENTORSHIP COMMITTEE HELPS BUILD SELF-ESTEEM AND CONFIDENCE IN YOUNG PEOPLE AGES 12 TO 22 BY PROVIDING ADULT INTERACTION, TEACHING LIFE SKILLS, INSTILLING HOPE, AND EMPOWERING THE YOUNG IN AN EFFORT TO DECREASE THE INCIDENCE OF ADULT DETENTION. CURRENT COMMUNITY PARTNERS INCLUDE LUTHERAN HOMES, VITA NOVA, AND FLORENCE DE GEORGE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB, AS WELL AS BRINGING BACK GEMS (GIRLS EMPOWERMENT MENTORING SESSIONS). IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE, THE COMMITTEE ALSO KEPT THEIR PRESENCE AT VITA NOVA (A DORMITORY STYLE LIVING FACILITY IN WEST PALM BEACH FOR BOYS AND GIRLS, AGES 18-25, WHO HAVE AGED OUT OF THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM AND WOULD BE HOMELESS WITHOUT THIS PROGRAM'S HELP) DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON BY DONATING CHRISTMAS TREES AND OTHER HOLIDAY DECOR.


THE PUBLIC AFFAIRS COMMITTEE SUPPORTS AND TRAINS OUR MEMBERS TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY AND STATE THROUGH PUBLIC POLICY ADVOCACY, HELPING TO GIVE A GREATER VOICE TO OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS, LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES AND LEADS LEGISLATIVE AGENDA TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN THROUGHOUT FLORIDA. IN THE YEAR, THE COMMITTEE CONTINUED WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR STATE LEGISLATIVE OFFICES IN PALM BEACH COUNTY AS THEY ADVOCATED FOR THE JUNIOR LEAGUES OF FLORIDA PRIORITY ISSUES. WHEN THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE CONCLUDED, THEY PASSED THE LARGEST BUDGET IN THE STATE'S HISTORY BUT THEY ALSO PASSED A NUMBER OF OUR JUNIOR LEAGUE SPAC PRIORITY ISSUES. IN-PERSON ADVOCACY, EDUCATION AND VOLUNTEERING IS RETURNING AND BY THE END OF THE LEAGUE YEAR.


THROUGH THEIR DONE IN A DAY (DIAD) PROGRAM, JLPB SERVED AN AVERAGE OF 5 SHIFTS PER MONTH AND ADDED 2 NEW PARTNERSHIPS. IN THIS PROGRAM, JLPB VOLUNTEERS ARE ABLE TO QUICKLY RESPOND TO THEIR COMMUNITIES NEEDS BY WORKING WITH PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS FOR A VARIETY OF PROJECTS, INCLUDING FOOD INSECURITY PROGRAMS LIKE THE FOOD BANK, URBAN IMPACT, CROS MINISTRIES, AND BEACH CLEAN UP WITH THE LOGGERHEAD MARINELIFE CENTER.


KIDS IN THE KITCHEN (KITK) IS AN ONGOING INITIATIVE THAT PROVIDES FOR EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS AND COOKING DEMONSTRATIONS TO OPPORTUNITY, EARLY CHILDHOOD AND NOURISHING FOOD FOR THOUGHT. KITK SERVED 90 DIFFERENT FAMILIES FROM OPPORTUNITY EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION & FAMILY CENTER NUTRITIOUS MEALS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND TAUGHT THEM HOW TO MAKE THEM AT HOME, FED 65 CHILDREN AND ADULTS STAYING AT QUANTUM HOUSE AND RESTORED AND REPLANTED A GARDEN AT SOUTH OLIVE ELEMENTARY. DAY OF IMPACT WAS STARTED THE PREVIOUS YEAR TO COMMEMORATE AND CELEBRATE 80 YEARS OF VOLUNTEERISM ASSISTING LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS IN VARIOUS ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE DAY. IN ONE DAY, 102 VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATED IN 13 SHIFTS FOR 7 COMMUNITY PARTNERS, VOLUNTEERING FOR OVER 200 COMBINED HOURS. PINK PALM ASSEMBLES CARE PACKAGES WITH NECESSITIES FOR EXPECTANT MOTHERS, HOMELESS MEN, AND WOMEN, FOSTER CHILDREN AND CHILDREN, AFFECTED BY THE OPIOID CRISIS FOR DISTRIBUTION INTO THE COMMUNITY. IN KEEPING WITH THE NEW FOCUS OF LITERACY AND EDUCATION, THE BUILDS INCLUDED PROVIDING EDUCATION ITEMS AND KITS. IN THE YEAR, 300 PACKAGES WERE PROVIDED TO 4 COMMUNITY PARTNERS. EYE AND EAR ALERT PROGRAM. SINCE 1968, MORE THAN 1,000 CHILDREN HAVE PARTICIPATED IN JLPB'S EYE AND EAR ALERT PROGRAM, WHICH PROVIDE FREE VISION AND HEARING SCREENINGS TO PRESCHOOLERS AND YOUNG CHILDREN TO DETECT POSSIBLE CONCERNS FOR AFFECTIVE CORRECTION. WHILE SCREENING EVENTS HAVE BEEN LIMITED FOLLOWING COVID, JLPB WAS ABLE TO SCREEN 135 CHILDREN SAFELY AND HAVE REMAINED IN CLOSE CONTACT WITH THEIR PARTNERS TO SUPPORT THE CHILDREN AND COMMUNITY.
