PROVIDES FUNDING & SUPPORT FOR COMPREHENSIVE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT (CODEP,ORGANIZATION ADMINISTERED IN HAITI),WHOSE PURPOSE IS TO DEVELOP A SELF-SUSTAINING ECONOMY AMONG APPROXIMATELY 70 SMALL COMMUNITIES IN THE LEOGANE COMMUNE. IN THE LAST 29 YEARS, CODEP HAS PLANTED MORE THAN 14 MILLION TREES,DUG OVER 1,500 MILES OF EROSION CONTROL DITCHES,INSTALLED MORE THAN 100 CISTERNS,STOCKED OVER 30 FISHPONDS, AND BUILT SOME 90 HOUSES. ADDITIONALLY, THE PROJECT HAS PROVIDED TRAINING FOR AGRICULTURE, NUTRITION, AND SANITATION PRACTICES.CODEP EMPLOYS LOCAL CITIZENS, INCLUDING MANY WOMEN, AND TRAINS THEM TO BECOME LEADERS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES.
