BALLETHNIC DANCE COMPANY IS A CLASSICALLY TRAINED, CULTURALLY DIVERSE COMPANY. BALLETHNIC'S GOAL IS TO INFORM, EDUCATE, AND ENTERTAIN THROUGH THE ART OF DANCE BY LECTURING, TEACHING AND PERFORMING. THE MISSION OF BALLETHNIC IS TO INFORM, EDUCATE AND ENTERTAIN THROUGH DANCE, USING DANCE AS A VEHICLE TO IMPACT THE COMMUNITY BY OFFERING PROGRAMS THAT ACT AS A CATALYST FOR SOCIAL CHANGE.

FOR THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2022, BALLETHNIC DANCE COMPANY, INC. OPERATED THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS:BALLETHNIC DANCE COMPANY: THE COMPANY PERFORMED THROUGHOUT THE REGION INCLUDING JUNETEENTH FOR THE CITY OF FAIRBURN, THE CITY OF EAST POINT COLLABORATION ART IN MOTION, THE CITY OF ATHENS FOR EAEDC ANNUAL PRODUCTION MOVING MOUNTAINS, THE CITY OF SOUTH FULTON NATIONAL DANCE WEEK, AND FOR UNITED ARTS IN NORTH CAROLINA A VIRTUAL LECTURE DEMONSTRATION. THE PROFESSIONAL DANCE COMPANY STAGED THE 2021 URBAN NUTCRACKER EXPERIENCE PRODUCTION AT THE LEGACY THEATER AT PHASE EVENTS LOCATED IN ALPHARETTA, GA IN DECEMBER FOR THE SECOND TIME. DUE TO THE ONGOING COVID19 CASES THERE WAS A REPEAT OF CAST REDUCTION AND STRICT SAFETY PROTOCOLS WERE ENFORCED. THIS YEAR THERE WERE TWO SOLD OUT PERFORMANCES WITH MORE THAN 300 AUDIENCE MEMBERS FROM AROUND THE REGION AND NEARBY STATES NORTH CAROLINA AND TENNESSEE. TWO EXTRAORDINARY OCCURRENCES HAPPENED IN THE SPRING AND SUMMER MONTHS. THE COMPANY CO- PRESENTED ITS SIGNATURE BALLET THE LEOPARD TALE WITH THE ALLIANCE THEATRE IN THE SPRING WHICH PRODUCED NEW AUDIENCES AND SUPPORTERS. THE COMPANY PERFORMED AT THE KENNEDY CENTERS REFRAMING THE NARRATIVE OF BALLET FOR 7 PERFORMANCES AS THREE OF THE PROFESSIONAL BLACK BALLET COMPANIES PERFORMED ON THE OPERA HOUSE STAGE TO OVER 9,000 ATTENDEES. BALLETHNIC ACADEMY OF DANCE: PROFESSIONAL DANCE INSTRUCTORS PROVIDED TRAINING FOR ALL SKILL LEVELS (AGE 3 ADULT) AT ITS EAST POINT STUDIOS FROM SEPTEMBER-MAY. FALL SEMESTER ENROLLMENT BEGAN TO INCREASE AS THE FEAR OF COVID 19 BEGAN TO DECREASE. BALLETHNIC CONTINUES TO KEEP SAFETY PROTOCOLS IN PLACE. STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY DANCERS THAT TRAIN IN THE ACADEMY PARTICIPATED IN THE 2021 PRODUCTION OF URBAN NUTCRACKER EXPERIENCE AS WELL AS OTHER COMMUNITY DANCERS. BALLETHNIC ACADEMY OF DANCE HELD ITS ANNUAL SPRING OPEN HOUSE PERFORMANCE ON THE OUTDOOR STAGE AT THE BALLETHNIC FACILITY. BALLETHNIC ACADEMY OF DANCE STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN THE CULTURAL CUL DE SAC FREE OUTDOOR PERFORMANCES FOR THE COMMUNITY MONTHLY, FROM JUNE TO AUGUST ON ITS OUTDOOR STAGE. THE FALL FESTIVAL AS A FREE GATHERING EXPERIENCED AN INCREASE OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS. BALLETHNIC YOUTH ENSEMBLE PRE-PROFESSIONALS AS WELL AS OTHER COMMUNITY PERFORMERS OFFER AN ARRAY OF TALENT TO THE SPRING THROUGH THE FALL SERIES.THE SUCCESS OF THE PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIP PROGRAM BEYOND THE BARRE PROGRAM CONTINUED WITH TRANSFORMATIVE WORKSHOPS WHICH EMPOWERED YOUNG WOMEN AND YOUBALLETHNIC CONTINUED ITS PARTNERSHIP WITH A DANCERS HEART, ANOTHER NONPROFIT THAT COLLABORATES TO PRESENT YOUTH DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS. THROUGH EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS, PARTICIPANTS EXPLORE A VARIETY OF THEMES AND ISSUES SUCH AS COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION, CONFLICT RESOLUTION, HEALTH AND WELLNESS, LITERACY, AND EDUCATION. SOME OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL WORKSHOPS HAVE BEEN COLLEGE PREPARATION AND CONVERSATIONS ABOUT SOCIAL CHALLENGES WITH PRETEENS. THE DANCERS HEART FOUNDATION ALSO FUNDED THE IMANI SCHOLARSHIP AT THE ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE PERFORMANCE IN MAY.BALLETHNIC YOUTH ENSEMBLE (BYE): THROUGH THIS PRE-PROFESSIONAL TRAINING AND DANCE ENSEMBLE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AGES 7 TO ADULT, PARTICIPANTS RECEIVED AN ADVANCED LEVEL OF INSTRUCTION. THE GOAL IS TO NURTURE MEMBERS OF THE YOUTH ENSEMBLE AND SUPPORT THEM WITH FUTURE APPRENTICE AND DANCE OPPORTUNITIES IN PROFESSIONAL COMPANIES. THE BYE ENSEMBLE HAS BEEN ESSENTIAL IN PARTICIPATING IN A VARIETY OF OPPORTUNITIES ALONGSIDE THE PROFESSIONAL COMPANY. COMMUNITY PERFORMANCES INCLUDED PERFORMANCES WITH THE FUSION CHAMBER ENSEMBLE AT LOCAL THEATERS. SCHOOL PERFORMANCES: DUE TO THE PANDEMIC AND SCHOOL SYSTEMS PROTOCOLS, SCHOOL PERFORMANCES WERE OFFERED THIS YEAR VIRTUALLY.DANCE DIVERSITY SUMMER ARTS CAMP: DANCE TRAINING AND EXPOSURE TO THE PERFORMING ARTS IS OFFERED THROUGH BALLETHNIC DANCE COMPANY, INC.S SUMMER CLASSES. DANCE DIVERSITY SUMMER CAMP PROVIDED WEEKLY PROGRAMS FOR AGES 6 18, HELD DURING THE MONTHS OF JUNE AND JULY. BALLETHNIC COMPANY MEMBERS, STAFF TEACHERS AND GUEST ARTISTS TAUGHT DANCE, DRUMMING, AFRICAN HISTORY, SONGS, AND MUSIC. STUDENTS ATTENDED BEGINNING, INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED LEVEL CLASSES. CAMPS WERE SEPARATED BY AGE GROUPS AND LEVELS. SUMMER CLASSES CULMINATED IN VIRTUAL PERFORMANCES, DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. DANSEUR DEVELOPMENT PROJECT: THE DANSEUR DEVELOPMENT PROJECT CONTINUED TO PROVIDE A CREATIVE TOOL FOR YOUNG MEN TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES THROUGH INTENSE ATHLETIC TRAINING AND BODY MOVEMENT. WAVERLY LUCAS AND OTHER INSTRUCTORS PROVIDE ONE-ON-ONE TRAINING TO YOUTH AGES 6-21. YOUNG MEN IN THEIR MID TO LATE TWENTIES WHO HAVE STARTED THEIR DANCE CAREERS AT A LATE STAGE ALSO PARTICIPATE IN THE CLASSES. WEEKLY CLASSES ARE OFFERED BEGINNING IN THE SUMMER AND THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THE PARTICIPANTS ARE SUPPORTED BY VARIOUS MENTORS FROM THE COMMUNITY, WHICH ENCOURAGES POSITIVE ROLE MODELS FOR YOUNG MALES.OUTREACH PROGRAMS/ LECTURES DEMONSTRATIONS AND WORKSHOPS: A WIDE VARIETY OF SCHOOL PERFORMANCES, COMMUNITY PRODUCTIONS, LECTURES, EXHIBITIONS (COSTUME DESIGN, DANCE HISTORY), ARTIST TALKS, AND MINI WORKSHOPS WERE OFFERED VIRTUALLY INCREASING THE REACH BALLETHNIC DANCE COMPANY CONTINUED CULTIVATING AND EDUCATING THROUGH ITS COMMUNITY GARDEN.BALLETHNIC BEGAN ARCHIVING ITS HISTORY WITH FUNDING FROM DANCE USA AND ITS ARCHIVIST PRESENTED THE INITIAL PROJECT IN DENVER COLORADO.
