EXHIBITS, COLLECTIONS, & PRESERVATION: ACHS STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS, WORKING WITH LOCAL CITIZENS, COLLECT, PRESERVE, AND EXHIBIT MANUSCRIPTS, PRINTED MATERIALS, ORAL HISTORIES, DIGITAL HUMANITIES RESEARCH, AND CULTURAL MATERIALS AND ARTIFACTS SO THAT LOCAL CITIZENS AND VISITORS CAN STUDY THE HISTORY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE AND ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA. THE ACHS EXHIBITS ITS COLLECTIONS IN ITS OWN HISTORIC SPACE AND OTHER LOCAL VENUES; PRESENTS HISTORICAL PROGRAMS, LECTURES, AND OTHER RELATED ACTIVITIES; SUPPORTS HISTORICAL AND GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH; PROMOTES THE USE OF THE LOCAL INFORMATIONAL WIKI WWW.CVILLEPEDIA.ORG; MANAGES THE HISTORIC ONE-OF-A-KIND HATTON FERRY ON THE JAMES RIVER; AND PUBLISHES FREQUENT NEWSLETTERS AND AN ANNUAL ACADEMIC JOURNAL. WE OFFER MONTHLY ONLINE PROGRAMS ON VARIOUS HISTORICAL TOPICS, INCLUDING A SPEAKER SERIES, PANEL DISCUSSIONS, AND CONVERSATIONAL INTERVIEWS CALLED UNREGULATED HISTORICAL MEANDERINGS. WE PARTNER IN OUR PROGRAMS AND EVENTS WITH LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS, THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE AND ALBEMARLE COUNTY, THE REGIONAL LIBRARY, AND PUBLIC/PRIVATE SCHOOLS TO PROMOTE A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF OUR LOCAL HISTORY. OUR PROGRAMS CHALLENGE THE LOCAL COMMUNITY TO LEARN FROM THE PAST TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE PRESENT BY INTERROGATING THE CIRCUMSTANCES, FORCES, AND CHOICES THAT LED TO CURRENT SITUATIONS WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY AND THE LARGER WORLD.
