ASL EXISTS TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITY FOR PEOPLE FROM APPALACHIA AND BEYOND TO REALIZE THEIR DREAMS OF PRACTICING LAW AND BETTERING THEIR COMMUNITIES. WE ATTRACT A QUALIFIED, DIVERSE AND DEDICATED STUDENT BODY, MANY OF WHOM WILL REMAIN IN THE REGION AFTER GRADUATION AND SERVE AS LEGAL COUNSELORS, ADVOCATES, JUDGES, MEDIATORS, COMMUNITY LEADERS, AND PUBLIC OFFICIALS. WE OFFER A NATIONALLY RECRUITED, DIVERSE, AND WELL-QUALIFIED FACULTY, A RIGOROUS PROGRAM FOR THE PROFESSIONAL TRAINING OF LAWYERS AND A COMPREHENSIVE LAW LIBRARY. THE PROGRAM EMPHASIZES PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY, AND PRACTICE SKILLS. THE ASL COMMUNITY IS AN EXCITING, STUDENT-CENTERED ENVIRONMENT THAT EMPHASIZES HONESTY, INTEGRITY, FAIRNESS, AND RESPECT FOR OTHERS. WE ALSO EMPHASIZE COMMUNITY SERIVCE AND PROVIDE RESOURCES FOR PEOPLE, THE BAR, COURTS AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS OF THE REGION.

THE LAW SCHOOL ENROLLED 62 NEW FULL-TIME STUDENTS IN THE JD PROGRAM FOR A TOTAL ENROLLMENT OF 158 AND AWARDED THE JD DEGREE TO 55 GRADUATES. STUDENTS AT THE LAW SCHOOL HAVE COMPLETED OVER 225,000 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE SINCE THE SCHOOL'S FOUNDING. A 2020 SURVEY OF FIVE RECENT ASL CLASSES ESTABLISHED THAT 58% OF OUR GRADUATES ARE LIVING, PRACTICING, AND SERVING THEIR COMMUNITIES IN APPALACHIA. BETWEEN ASL'S FIRST GRADUATING CLASS AND 2020, 62% OF NEW RESIDENT LAWYERS IN THE SEVEN COUNTIES SURROUNDING THE LAW SCHOOL RECEIVED THEIR J.D. DEGREES FROM ASL. THE NEXT SCHOOL CONTRIBUTING TO NEW LAWYERS IN THE SEVEN COUNTIES TOTALED 6% DURING THE SAME PERIOD.
