Part 3
DUE TO COVID-19, CHILDREN'S CHORUS OF CARROLL COUNTY CHOSE TO PIVOT OUR REHEARSALS TO ZOOM INSTEAD OF "IN PERSON" TO SAFEGUARD AGAINST SHARED AEROSOLS. THROUGH ZOOM, WE WERE ABLE TO GATHER OUR 65 CHORUS MEMBERS INTO OUR 4 SEPARATE AUDITIONED CHOIRS THAT ARE BASED ON AGE INTO ZOOM "ROOMS" AND HOLD REHEARSALS. MANY STUDENTS LOOKED FORWARD TO OUR REHEARSALS TO LET GO AND SING, BUT SOME STUDENTS FOUND OUR REHEARSALS PROVIDED SOMETHING THAT WAS MISSING DURING THE ONLINE SCHOOL DAY WHICH WAS SOCIALIZATION AND A FEELING OF HAPPINESS. TUESDAY NIGHT ZOOM REHEARSALS BECAME A LIFELINE FOR MANY OF OUR CHORUS MEMBERS AS OUR DIRECTORS PROVIDED SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL) THROUGH MUSIC. WE WERE ABLE TO TEACH THE STUDENTS REPERTOIRE, CONTINUE OUR MUSIC LITERACY, CAPTURE AUDIO THROUGH SOUND TRAP, AND RECORD VIDEO THROUGH THE ZOOM SOFTWARE. EACH DIRECTOR EDITED THEIR CHOIR'S AUDIO AND VIDEO, AND ONE OF OUR TALENTED DIRECTORS EDITED THE VIDEO INTO ONE PERFORMANCE PER SEMESTER. THE CHOIR FAMILIES GATHERED ONLINE FOR THE PREMIER OF EACH CONCERT THROUGH YOUTUBE AND WE WERE ABLE TO TYPE INTO THE CHAT AS A COMMUNITY COMMENTING ON WONDERFUL MOMENTS WITHIN THE VIDEO PERFORMANCES. VIRTUALLY THERE WERE 1,160 VIEWS FOR THE WINTER CONCERT AND 635 VIEWS FOR THE SPRING CONCERT. THIS WAS A VERY DIFFERENT CHORUS SEASON FROM WHAT WE WERE USED TO, BUT WE WERE ABLE TO BRING OUR COMMUNITY TOGETHER THROUGH SONG DURING VERY TRYING TIMES.
