STRIVE DC PROVIDED JOB READINESS TRAINING TO UNEMPLOYED RESIDENTS OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA AS A MEANS OF ERADICATING ITS HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT RATE. NEARLY 76% OF STRIVE DC'S PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS RESIDED IN DC WARDS 5, 6, 7 AND 8--WARDS IN WHICH THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IS HIGHEST. ONE OF STRIVE DC'S LARGEST PROGRAMS WAS ITS "STRIVE FOR SUCCESS" PROGRAM, WHICH WAS A FAST TRACK GED PROGRAM THAT TARGETED YOUNG ADULTS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 16 TO 25, AND WAS CO-SPONSORED BY THE ACADEMY OF HOPE. PARTICIPANTS RECEIVED 30 HOURS OF ACADEMIC INSTRUCTION WEEKLY DURING A SEVEN-WEEK PERIOD, AND WERE SUBJECT TO A PRACTICE GED EXAMINATION AT THE COMPLETION OF THE PROGRAM.
