DANCE INSTITUTE OF WASHINGTON PROVIDES CHILDREN AND YOUTH THE OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP ARTISTICALLY, SOCIALLY, EMOTIONALLY ANDINTELLECTUALLY THROUGH BALLET AND DIVERSE DANCE. ITS COMMITMENTS TO ACCESS, EQUITY AND ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE DISTINGUISH DIW FROM OTHERS. DIW OPERATES A PRE-PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL, COMMUNITY-BASED BLACK BOX THEATER, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVES IN ALL WARDS, CREATIVE INCUBATION, AND REHEARSAL SPACE FOR ITS YOUTH ENSEMBLE, AND PROFESSIONAL COMPANIES, GRANTING YOUTH AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS FROM DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS THE CHANCE TO EXPERIENCE THE RICH IMPACT OF THE PERFORMING ARTS.

DANCE INSTRUCTION AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH: HIGH QUALITY DANCE INSTRUCTION OF NUMEROUS DANCE STYLES FOR CHILDREN, YOUTH AND ADULTS AS WELL AS PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES ON THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA'S FINEST STAGES. THE DANCE INSTITUTE'S FREE COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM COMBINES QUALITY DANCE TRAINING WITH ACADEMICS, JOBS AND LIFE SKILLS WORKSHOPS, MENTORING, WORK EXPERIENCE, CREATIVE PROJECTS, FIELD TRIPS, AND PERFORMANCES TO HELP THE CITY'S LEAST-SERVED, LOW-INCOME YOUTH ADVANCE TOWARDS HIGHT SCHOOL GRADUATION, COLLEGE AND CAREERS. AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT IS CONDUCTED THROUGH MARKETING, COMMUNITY OUTREACH, PERFORMANCES, OPEN HOUSE EVENTS, CONCERTS AND LECTURE DEMONSTRATIONS.
