IN FREDERICK, THAT MISSION DRIVES THE ORGANIZATION TO PARTNER WITH INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WHO ARE IN NEED OF THE STRENGTH, STABILITY AND SELF-RELIANCE THAT COMES WITH AFFORDABLE HOME OWNERSHIP. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF FREDERICK COUNTY, MD PARTNERS WITH THESE LOCAL CITIZENS TO BUILD A NEW HOME, PURCHASE A NEWLY RENOVATED HOME THROUGH THE FREDERICK COUNTY AFFORDABLE HOUSING LAND TRUST, OR MAKE NECESSARY REPAIRS TO THEIR CURRENT HOME. HABITAT'S HOME BUILD PROGRAM COMPLETED NEW CONSTRUCTION ON A HOME IN MIDDLETOWN, MD FOR A FAMILY WITH FIVE CHILDREN RANGING IN AGE FROM ONE TO NINETEEN, DESPITE COVID-19 RELATED CLOSURES.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF FREDERICK COUNTY MD'S HABITAT HOME REPAIR PROGRAM BUILDS ON THE ORGANIZATIONS TRADITIONAL PARTNERSHIP MODEL USING AFFORDABLE PAYMENT OPTIONS, SWEAT EQUITY AND VOLUNTEER LABOR TO SERVE LOW TO MODERATE INCOME FREDERICK COUNTY HOMEOWNERS WITH HOME REPAIRS AND MODIFICATIONS. THIS PROGRAM FOCUSES ON IMPROVING QUALITY OF LIFE, MAINTAINING FINANCIAL STABILITY, AND KEEPING HOMES SAFE. EACH PROJECT IS UNIQUE TO ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF THE HOMEOWNER. SERVICES CAN RANGE FROM MINOR REQPAIRS TO THE INTALLATION OF GRAB BARS AND OTHER SAFETY MEASURES TO HELP SENIORS SAFELY AGE-IN-PLACE AT HOME. IN FY21, 20 LOCAL HOMEOWNERS RECEIVED SERVICES THROUGH THIS PROGRAM TO ENSURE THEIR SAFETY AT HOME.
HABITAT RESTORE: THOUSANDS OF TONS OF USEABLE BUILDING MATERIALS, HOUSEHOLD GOODS AND FURNITURE ARE DONATED TO THE HABITAT FOR HUMANITY RESTORE OF FREDERICK COUNTY, MD KEEPING THESE MATERIALS OUT OF LANDFILLS. THE RESTORE IS ABLE TO RECYCLE AND SELL THESE DONATIONS BACK TO THE COMMUNITY. PROCEEDS FROM THESE SALES SUPPORT THE OPERATING EXPENSES OF THE ORGANIZATION SO THAT MORE HOMES CAN BE BUILT, RENOVATED AND REPAIRED FOR LOCAL CITIZENS WHO ARE IN NEED OF THE STRENGTH, STABILITY AND SELF-RELIANCE THAT COMES FROM AFFORDABLE HOME OWNERSHIP.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF FREDERICK COUNTY'S AWARD-WINNING LAND TRUST PROGRAM, THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN MARYLAND, ALLOWS LOW TO MID-INCOME APPLICANTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE A HOME WHILE THE ORGANIZATION RETAINS OWNERSHIP OF THE LAND. THIS MODEL REDUCES THE PURCHASE PRICE TO THE BUYER AND, THROUGH RE-SALE CLAUSES, ENSURES THE HOUSING UNITS WILL BE KEPT IN AFFORDABILITY FOR PERPETUITY. RECENT OPERATIONS OF THIS PROGRAM FOCUSED ON INFRASTRUCTURE GROWTH IN PREPARATION FOR A LARGE SCALE PROJECT IN THE CITY OF FREDERICK, MARYLAND. THE FREDERICK COUNTY AFFORDABLE HOUSING LAND TRUST (AFHLT) AQUIRED A LARGE GRANT FROM THE MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING & COUMMINTY DEVELOPMENT TO PURCHASE THREE BLIGHTED PROPERTIES. THE FCAHLT WILL REHABILITATE, RENOVATE AND BUILD ON THE PROPERTIES IN ORDER TO MAKE 12 UNITS OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING AVAILABLE TO LOCAL FAMILIES. THE BUILD AND RENOVATION WORK ARE SLATED TO BEGIN IN THE FALL OF FY22.
