THE NEWARK AREA WELFARE COMMITEE (THE ENTITY) IS AN EXPANDING NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION, WHOSE MISSION IS TO SERVE THE UNDER PRIVILEGED CITIZENS OF THE COMMUNITY OF NEWARK, DELAWARE. THE ENTITY ACHIEVES THIS BY PROVIDING FOOD, SHOES, AND ASSISTANCE WITH UTILITY BILLS AND RENT TO THE LESS FORTUNATE.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

EMERGENCY CASH ASSISTANCE: PROVIDED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR RENT, MORTGAGE PAYMENTS, UTILTIES, MEDICINE, AUTO FUEL, AND AUTO REPAIRS FOR INDIGENT FAMILIES. IN 2022 A TOTAL OF 60 FAMILIES WERE ASSISTED.


SPECIAL ONE TIME PROJECTS UNRELATED TO THE LARGE THREE PROGRAM SERVICES WE HAVE ARE: SENIOR CENTER MEALS ON WHEELS, NEWARK BIKE PROJECT, EMPOWERMENT CENTER SUPPORT, NON FOOD HOLIDAY GIFT BOXES, CHRISTIANA SCHOOL DISTRICT CARES CLOSETS FOR SUPPLIES AND AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM, PAL BUILDING FUND, EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN PROGRAM WISHLIST, AND SUPPORT FOR NEWARK FAMILIES AT CHRISTMAS TIME.


HOLIDAY BASKETS/FOOD ASSISTANCE: PROVIDED HOLIDAY BASKETS OF FOOD AND GROCERIES TO INDIGENT INDIVIDUALS; THE FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM PROVIDED THREE MEALS A DAY FOR ONE WEEK TO INDIGENT FAMILIES. IN 2022 A TOTAL OF 489 FAMILIES WERE ASSISTED.


SHOES: PURCHASED NEW SHOES FOR INDIGENT CHILDREN AND INDIGENT ADULTS. IN 2022, NAWC DONATED NEW SHOES TO 166 CHILDREN AND 22 ADULTS IN NEED.
