OUR MISSION IS TO END THE USE OF POLICE DEADLY FORCE AGAINST BLACK PEOPLE AND OTHERS FROM DISENFRANCHISED COMMUNITIES TO CHANGE DEADLY FORCE POLICIES AND PRACTICES TO ADVOCATE FOR CHANGE WITH FAMILIES WHO HAVE LOST LOVED ONES TO POLICE VIOLENCE AND TO ENCOURAGE SOCIAL INVESTMENT IN HUMAN NEEDS.

MAPB CONDUCTED A LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM, THE MAPB FELLOWSHIP LEGACY PROGRAM, TO TRAIN AND SUPPORT MOTHERS DIRECTLY IMPACTED BY POLICE BRUTALITY. THROUGH THE PROGRAM, THE FELLOWS NETWORK WITH OTHER MOTHERS, LEARN NEW SKILLS, AND GAIN BROADER EXPERIENCES THAT WILL HELP THEM TO BECOME MORE EFFECTIVE LEADERS IN THEIR RESPECTIVE CITIES AND, WORKING IN COALITIONS WITH OTHERS, IN A LARGER MOVEMENT TO CHANGE POLICING AND IMPROVE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC CONDITIONS IN THE NATIONS HISTORICALLY MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES. THIS PROGRAM BECAME IN 2021 OUR PRIMARY INITIATIVE FOR DEVELOPING A NETWORK OF FAMILIES AMONG THOSE WHO HAVE SUFFERED DIRECTLY FROM POLICE MISCONDUCT AND VIOLENCE. STARTED IN OCTOBER 2021, THE PROGRAM IS OPERATING IN 10 U.S. CITIES.


MOTHERS AGAINST POLICE BRUTALITY (MAPB) CONDUCTED A PROGRAM OF COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND ORGANIZING TO IMPLEMENT THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION, INCLUDING WEBINARS, PANEL DISCUSSIONS, VIGILS, PUBLIC DEMONSTRATIONS, SOCIAL MEDIA, AND OTHER EVENTS. NOTE ON REVENUE: ALL PROGRAM SERVICES WERE WHOLLY SUPPORTED BY CONTRIBUTORS.


MAPB PARTICIPATED IN INITIATIVES TO LIFT UP THE ISSUE OF POLICE BRUTALITY, PARTICULARLY EXTRAJUDICIAL KILLINGS BY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS, AT THE UNITED NATIONS. MAPB'S PROVIDED EXPERT IN-PERSON TESTIMONY TO THE UN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL AT ITS MEETING IN GENEVA, SWITZERLAND; PROVIDED WRITTEN TESTIMONY INVITED BY THE OFFICE OF THE HIGH COMMISISONER FOR HUMAN RIGHST (OHCHR); PROVIDED LIVE VIDEO TESTIMONY TO THE UN FORUM ON HUMAN RIGHTS, DEMOCRACY AND THE RULE OF LAW ON "EQUAL ACCESS TO JUSTICE FOR ALL: A NECESSARY ELEMENT OF DEMOCRACY, RULE OF LAW AND HUMAN RIGHTS PROTECTION" MAPB BEGAN OUTREACH TO DIRECTLY-IMPACTED FAMILIES IN THE UNITED KINGDOM.
