THE MISSION OF LATINOS UNITED FOR A NEW AMERICA (LUNA) IS TO UNIFY THE LATINO COMMUNITY WITH THE GOAL OF SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF OUR FAMILIES AND THE FUTURE OF OUR CHILDREN THROUGH ADVOCACY AND CIVIC PARTICIPATION.

ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE : ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE ACADEMY: PROVIDED A SERIES OF WORKSHOPS ON CONSERVATION AND HOW COMMUNITY MEMBERS CAN MAKE THEIR HOMES MORE SUSTAINABLE AND GREEN. REID-HILLVIEW AIRPORT CAMPAIGN: FOCUSED ON: 1) PROVIDING OUTREACH AND EDUCATION SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITIES SURROUNDING THE RHV AIRPORT, RELATING TO THE HEALTH RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH AIRBORNE LEAD EMISSIONS; 2) SUPPORTING AND ENCOURAGING COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO MEANINGFULLY PARTICIPATE IN UPCOMING GOVERNMENTAL PROCESSES AFFECTING THEIR LIVES. RECYCLE SAN JOSE: A CAMPAIGN IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CITY OF SAN JOSE, WHERE WE CONDUCTED OUTREACH TO THE LATINX COMMUNITY TO DISCUSS THE IMPORTANCE OF RECYCLING, WHAT ITEMS CAN BE RECYCLED, AND SHARE INFORMATION ABOUT RECYCLING RESOURCES IN THE CITY.
CHAPTERS: AT LUNA, WE HAVE A HYPERLOCAL APPROACH TO COMMUNITY ORGANIZING, WHERE WE SUPPORT THE LIBERATION OF NEIGHBORHOODS TO BE SELF-SUFFICIENT AND AUTONOMOUS. WE REFER TO THESE LOCAL NEIGHBORHOODS AS CHAPTERS. FISCAL SPONSORSHIP: AT LUNA, WE OFFER OUR LEGAL AND TAX-EXEMPT STATUS TO GROUPS AND PROJECTS THAT ARE ENGAGED IN ACTIVITIES RELATED TO SERVING THE LATINX COMMUNITY AND/OR OUR ORGANIZATION'S MISSION. EDUCATION: IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EVERGREEN COMMUNITY COLLEGE, WE ENGAGED RESIDENTS OF EAST SAN JOSE TO BETTER UNDERSTAND WHAT THE COMMUNITY NEEDS TO SUCCEED IN HIGHER EDUCATION. THE FOCUS OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO HELP THE EVERGREEN COMMUNITY COLLEGE MAKE A DECISION THAT IS COMMUNITY-DRIVEN AND WILL BENEFIT RESIDENTS IN EAST SAN JOSE. TRANSPORTATION: ENGAGING THE SPANISH SPEAKING COMMUNITIES IN EAST SAN JOSE TO PROVIDE FEEDBACK ON TRANSPORTATION POLICIES THAT WILL DIRECTLY IMPACT THEIR MOVEMENT AND SAFETY IN THE COMMUNITY.
EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE (ERA) CAMPAIGN: ERA CAMPAIGN AIMED TO INFORM TENANTS ABOUT RENTAL ASSISTANCE, COVID-19 RESOURCES, AND EDUCATE THE COMMUNITY ABOUT TENANT RIGHTS AND LEGAL RESOURCES. ADDITIONALLY, THE CAMPAIGN FOCUSED ON ASSISTING TENANTS IN APPLYING FOR RENTAL ASSISTANCE THROUGH STATE HOUSING. THROUGH THIS CAMPAIGN, WE CANVASSED 14,124 HOMES, HAD OVER 4,000 CONVERSATIONS WITH TENANTS, AND HELPED 104 PEOPLE APPLY FOR COVID RENTAL ASSISTANCE.
IMMIGRATION: RAPID RESPONSE NETWORK: UNITES ORGANIZATIONS TO PROTECT OUR IMMIGRANT COMMUNITY FROM DEPORTATION. PAPELES PARA TODOS: GATHERS A MOVEMENT OF PEOPLE IMPACTED BY THE IMMIGRATION SYSTEM WHO ARE GUIDED TO LEAD KNOW YOUR RIGHTS PRESENTATIONS AND OUTREACH.
