THE TENNESSEE BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP (THE "PARTNERSHIP") IS AN ALLIANCE OF BUSINESS LEADERS AND ORGANIZATIONS WHO SUPPORT POLICY SOLUTIONS THAT FOSTER ECONOMIC GROWTH AND ENHANCE TENNESSEE'S COMPETITIVENESS. THE PARTNERSHIP ADVANCES ITS POLICY INITIATIVES THROUGH A STATEWIDE EFFORT THAT COMBINES EDUCATING THE PUBLIC, ENGAGING WITH POLICYMAKERS, AND SUPPORTING OTHER LIKE-MINDED ORGANIZATIONS INCLUDING MAKING GRANTS. IN 2017, THE PARTNERSHIP ENGAGED PRIMARILY IN EDUCATION REFORM ISSUES.

IN THE AREA OF EDUCATION REFORM, THE TENNESSEE BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP SUPPORTS CONTINUED IMPROVEMENT IN STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT IN K-12 EDUCATION AND INCREASING THE NUMBER OF POST-SECONDARY OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS AND ADULTS. IN K-12 EDUCATION, TENNESSEE HAS EXPERIENCED SUBSTANTIAL IMPROVEMENTS IN STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND TO CONTINUE DOING SO, IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE HIGHER ACADEMIC STANDARDS, MORE CHOICES FOR PARENTS AND GREATER ACCOUNTABILITY FOR RESULTS. HIGH STANDARDS PROVIDE A NEEDED ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM TO ASSURE PARENTS, TAXPAYERS AND BUSINESS LEADERS THAT TENNESSEE'S STUDENTS ARE BEING PREPARED FOR COLLEGE AND CAREER SUCCESS AFTER HIGH SCHOOL. IN HIGHER EDUCATION, TENNESSEE HAS ESTABLISHED THE DRIVE TO 55, AN INITIATIVE TO PROVIDE 55% OF TENNESSEANS WITH A CERTIFICATE OR COLLEGE DEGREE BY 2025. THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY REALIZES THAT IMPROVING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND HAVING A MORE CAREER-READY WORKFORCE ARE ESSENTIAL TO SUSTAINED ECONOMIC GROWTH.
