STFNA IS AN INDUSTRY WIDE ASSOCIATION CREATED TO JOINTLY DEVELOP DATA TO SUPPORT EPA SILVER REGISTRATION REVIEW UNDER SECTION 3(G) OF THE FEDERAL INSECTICIDE, FUNGICIDE & RODENTICIDE ACT. (FIFRA.)
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
IN EARLY 2022 EPA APPROVED THE STFNA'S BRIDGING REQUEST TO USE SILVER ACETATE AS THE REPRESENTATIVE TEST SUBSTANCE FOR ALL SILVER AND SILVER SALT ACTIVES OTHER THAN SILVER NITRATE FOR CONDUCTING THE REPEAT DOSE INHALATION TOXICITY STUDY. THE INITIAL 14-DAY INHALATION STUDY FOR THE SILVER NITRATE CONDUCTED BY JRF INTERNATIONAL WAS COMPLETED IN 2023. THE SILVER ACETATE STUDY AT JRF INTERNATIONAL WAS HALTED IN 2023 BASED ON JRF'S TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES WITH THE TEST SUBSTANCE SOLUBILITY. THIS STUDY MAY PROCEED ELSEWHERE DEPENDING ON THE FINAL SILVER NITRATE STUDY RESULTS. THE CENTER FOR BIOCIDE CHEMISTRIES (CBC) REACHED OUT TO THE STFNA TO COORDINATE ON A MUTUAL AGREEMENT FOR RESPONDING TO EPA ON A DEFINITION OF NANOMATERIALS. STFNA MEMBERS AGREED WITH CBC'S APPROACH TO JOINTLY SUPPORT THE EU DEFINITION OF NANOMATERIAL.
