Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

RESPONSE: SR3'S EXPERT FIRST RESPONDERS STAND READY EVERY DAY TO DELIVER EMERGENCY CARE FOR SUFFERING MARINE ANIMALS - FROM INJURED SEAL PUPS TO ENTANGLED HUMPBACK WHALES. IMPORTANT DATA IS ALSO COLLECTED DURING RESCUE OPERATIONS, HELPING REVEAL THE CAUSE IN ORDER TO DRIVE VITAL CONSERVATION EFFORTS, REMEDIATE NEGATIVE HUMAN IMPACTS, AND PROTECT MORE ANIMALS.

REHABILITATION: IN THE SPRING OF 2021, SR3 OPENED ITS SEALIFE RESCUE CENTER, THE ONLY MARINE WILDLIFE SPECIALTY HOSPITAL IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. THE RESCUE CENTER DELIVERS VETERINARY CARE AND PROFESSIONAL REHABILITATION TO SICK OR INJURED MARINE ANIMALS WHO NEED TIME TO HEAL BEFORE RETURNING TO THEIR OCEAN HOME. REHABILITATION NOT ONLY BENEFITS THE WELFARE OF INDIVIDUAL ANIMALS, BUT IT ALSO HELPS US MONITOR OVERALL POPULATION HEALTH AND IDENTIFY EMERGING ECOSYSTEM ISSUES.

RESEARCH: SR3'S RESEARCH PROGRAM HELPS ADDRESS THE ROOT CAUSES OF MARINE ANIMAL HEALTH ISSUES. BY COLLECTING CRITICAL HEALTH DATA FROM VULNERABLE MARINE ANIMAL POPULATIONS, WE INFORM CONSERVATION ACTIONS IMPORTANT TO THEIR SURVIVAL. A MAJOR FOCUS OF THIS PROGRAM IS THE ENDANGERED SOUTHERN RESIDENT KILLER WHALES, CONDUCTING HEALTH ASSESSMENTS THAT DRIVE BETTER DECISIONS ON: FISHERIES MANAGEMENT TO PRESERVE THEIR PRECIOUS FOOD RESOURCES, ACTIONS TO PROTECT CRITICAL HABITAT, AND POLICIES TO SAFEGUARD THEIR SURVIVAL.

EDUCATION AND OUTREACH: EXPENSES 21,957 SR3'S EDUCATION PROGRAMS HELP CHANNEL PEOPLE'S PASSION FOR MARINE ANIMALS INTO ACTION THAT PROTECTS THE OCEANS ON WHICH WE ALL DEPEND. THROUGH OUTREACH AT COMMUNITY EVENTS AND PRESENTATIONS FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS ALIKE, WE SHOW PEOPLE HOW THEIR EVERYDAY DECISIONS ARE INTRICATELY CONNECTED TO THE HEALTH OF MARINE ANIMALS, THEIR OCEAN HOME, AND HUMAN HEALTH.
