THE ASSOCIATION'S MISSION INCLUDES IMPROVING THE BUSINESS CONDITIONS FOR RETAIL STORES THAT SELL TOBACCO PRODUCTS LOCATED THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, PROVIDING INFORMATION TO ASSOCIATION MEMBERS ABOUT FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL REGULATIONS AND LAWS REGARDING THE SALE, ADVERTISING, PROMOTION, REGULATION AND TAXATION OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS AND HOW TO COMPLY WITH SUCH REGULATIONS AND LAWS, AND ASSISTING ASSOCIATION MEMBERS IN RESPONDING TO PROPOSED FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL REGULATIONS OR LEGISLATION THAT MAY IMPACT THE SALE, ADVERTISING, PROMOTION, REGULATION AND TAXATION OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS.

THE ASSOCIATION ISSUED HUNDREDS OF LEGISLATIVE ALERTS TO RETAIL STORE MEMBERS ABOUT PROPOSED TOBACCO-RELATED LEGISLATION BY LOCAL UNITS OF GOVERNMENT AND STATE LEGISLATORS. THE ALERTS PROVIDED MEMBERS WITH A SUMMARY OF THE PENDING LEGISLATION AND CONTACT INFORMATION FOR RETAILERS TO CALL OR E-MAIL THEIR ELECTED OFFICIALS ABOUT THE PROPOSED LAW CHANGES.
THE ASSOCIATION ASSISTED RETAIL MEMBERS IN 30 STATES IN CONTACTING THEIR STATE LEGISLATORS REGARDING PENDING LEGISLATION THAT RELATED TO THEIR RETAIL TOBACCO BUSINESS. THE BILLS INCLUDED PROPOSED TOBACCO EXERCISE TAX INCREASES, BANNING FLAVORS IN TOBACCO PRODUCTS AND RETAIL LICENSING RESTRICTIONS. ALSO, THE ASSOCIATION MONITORED AND ASSISTED MEMBER STORES IN APPROXIMATELY 100 CITIES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY RESPOND TO PROPOSED LOCAL TOBACCO RESTRICTIONS.
THE ASSOCIATION CREATED AND MAINTAINED A WEBSITE (WWW.NLAAUSA.ORG) KNOWN AS THE NATIONAL LOCAL ADVOCACY ALLIANCE WEBSITE. THIS WEBSITE PROVIDES RETAILERS WITH CURRENT INFORMATION ON NEW PROPOSED LOCAL ORDINANCES THAT WOULD REGULATE THE SALE OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS.
THE ASSOCIATION CONDUCTED A SERIES OF ON-LINE AND IN-PERSON EDUCATIONAL WEBINARS FOR MEMBERS TO BE UPDATED ON LEGISLATIVE AND REGULATORY MATTERS.
