OUR MISSION IS TO SUPPLEMENT AND ENRICH THE THEOLOGICAL AND MINISTERIAL EDUCATION BEING OFFERED IN SEMINARIES AND UNIVERSITIES, WITH ACADEMIC COURSES AND OTHER ACTIVITIES DIRECTLY ADDRESSING HISPANIC HISTORY, MINISTRY, AND THEOLOGY.

THE HISPANIC SUMMER PROGRAM IS A NETWORK OF THEOLOGICAL SCHOOLS FROM AROUND THE UNITED STATES THAT HAVE COME TOGETHER TO PROMOTE THEOLOGICAL EDUCATION FOR LATINO STUDENTS AND THOSE INTERESTED IN LATINO MINISTRIES. THERE ARE CURRENTLY AROUND 38 SCHOOLS ("SPONSORS") IN THE NETWORK. EACH SPONSOR CONTRIBUTES $4,500 PER YEAR TO THE HSP'S OPERATING BUDGET.THE HISPANIC SUMMER PROGRAM (HSP) NORMALLY OFFERS 6 CHOICES OF 3-CREDIT, ACCREDITED COURSES GEARED TOWARD MASTER-DEGREE LEVEL LATINA/O SEMINARIANS AND GRADUATE STUDENTS. THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED PRIMARILY FOR LATINA/O STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THEOLOGICAL SEMINARIES AND UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENTS OF THEOLOGY OR RELIGION. IN FISCAL YEAR 2023, THE HSP OFFERED SIX 3-CREDIT COURSES (FOUR IN PERSON AND TWO ONLINE). WE HAD 35 PARTICIPANTS FROM THE U.S. AND PUERTO RICO, REPRESENTING A WIDE VARIETY OF TRADITIONS, DENOMINATIONS, AND THEOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVES. WE HAVE ALSO WELCOMED ABOUT 10% OF NON-LATINA/O STUDENTS NATIONWIDE WHO ARE INVOLVED IN LATINO-CENTERED MINISTRIES AND ADVOCACY. THE (HSP) PROVIDES THE OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO STUDY WITH LATINA/O PEERS AND PROFESSORS.
OTHER PROGRAMS:LATINX DOCTORAL ACCOMPANIMENT SEMINARTHIS COURSE EXPLORES THE LANDSCAPE OF THEOLOGICAL EDUCATION IN THE CONTEXT OF THE UNITED STATES AND ITS IMPACT AND ENGAGEMENT WITH LATINX COMMUNITIES. IT CONSIDERS THE DEVELOPMENT AND TRAJECTORY OF LATINX SCHOLARSHIP IN AREAS OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES AND THEOLOGICAL EDUCATION BY CONSIDERING CULTURAL, SOCIAL, AND RELIGIOUS TRADITIONS AS WELL AS CURRENT POWER DYNAMICS IMPACTING LATINX COMMUNITIES THROUGH THE ENGAGEMENT OF CRITICAL TEXTS AND DIALOGUES WITH LATINX SCHOLARS TODAY. THIS THREE-CREDIT COURSE MENTORS STUDENTS THROUGH EVERY COMPONENT OF THE DOCTORAL (PH.D. AND TH.D.) APPLICATION PROCESS, EQUIPPING THEM TO APPLY TO DOCTORAL PROGRAMS. THE PRAXIS OF ACCOMPANIMENT:THIS INNOVATIVE COURSE EQUIPS STUDENTS WITH THE HISTORICAL, THEOLOGICAL, INTERCULTURAL, AND COUNSELING TOOLS TO PROVIDE PASTORAL CARE AND CHAPLAINCY ACCOMPANIMENT IN LATIN AMERICAN CONTEXTS. CO-TAUGHT BY A TEACHING TEAM OF FIVE FACULTY, ELIGIBLE STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO APPLY TO WORK WITH SOLIDARITY BRIDGE AND ACCOMPANY A TEAM OF SURGEONS TO PARAGUAY OR BOLIVIA AS PART OF THEIR MEDICAL PARTNERSHIPS.
