MICHIGAN FEDERATED CHAPTERS OF THE COUNCIL FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN, DBA MICHIGAN COUNCIL FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN "THE ORGANIZATION", IS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION. THE PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF THE ORGANIZATION IS TO STRENGTHEN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION TO IMPACT SUCCESS FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH EXCEPTIONALITIES (BY PROVIDING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, SUPPORT AND ADVOCACY FOR CHILDREN, YOUTH, FAMILIES, SPECIAL AND GENERAL EDUCATORS). THE ORGANIZATION IS THE MICHIGAN UNIT OF THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN, WHICH IS DEDICATION TO IMPROVING THE EDUCATIONAL SUCCESS OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH WITH DISABILITIES AND/OR GIFTED AND TALENTED.

DURING THE 2021-22 FISCAL YEAR, THE ORGANIZATION WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE SUPPORTING MANY OF OUR INITIATIVES AS WELL AS CONTINUE WITH THE MITTIN PROJECT. THE ORGANIZATION'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS WERE: 1. DESPITE THE REDUCED NUMBER OF SUMMER CAMPS OPERATING DURING THE SUMMER OF 2021, THE ORGANIZATION STILL WAS ABLE TO SUPPORT 13 STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS TO ATTEND A SUMMER CAMP. 2. THE ORGANIZATION BECAME A VENDOR ON THE SECOND GRANT AND CONTINUED THIS PARTNERSHIP TODAY IN PHASE III. OUR GOAL IS TO HAVE A LIBRARY OF MODULES FOR THE FIELD THAT ADDRESS A VARIETY OF LIFE SKILLS. 3.THE ORGANIZATION HELD SEVERAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES TO THE FIELD. THESE MODULES WERE MADE AVAILABLE FREE TO ALL EDUCATORS IN MICHIGAN TO SUPPLEMENT CLASSROOM/COMMUNITY INSTRUCTION ON LIFE-SKILLS. THE ORGANIZATION WERE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO BUILD AND ENHANCE THE 10 MODULES, TRAININGS FOR EDUCATORS USING THE MODULES, DEVELOP A PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY, AND ENTER INTO A RESEARCH COMPONENT WITH MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY. 4.THE ORGANIZATION HELD SEVERAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES TO THE FIELD. A.THE ORGANIZATION HELD OUR 82ND ANNUAL MICHIGAN CEC CONFERENCE, B.DIVISION OF EARLY CHILDHOOD HELD THEIR ANNUAL CONFERENCE, C.THE ORGANIZATION OFFERED 5 VIRTUAL WEBINARS ON A VARIETY OF TOPICS D.SEVERAL OF THE ORGANIZATION'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS PARTICIPATED IN THE CEC LEGISLATIVE SUMMIT AND MET WITH OUR STATE AND NATIONAL LEGISLATORS E.THE ORGANIZATION HOSTED THE 7TH ANNUAL MATH CONFERENCE WITH OUR PARTNERS MRALT AND ALT-SHIFT F.THE ORGANIZATION WAS A SPONSOR FOR THE UPPER PENINSULA ANNUAL SPECIAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE G.THE ORGANIZATION CONDUCTED 8 TRAININGS ON THE VR LIFE SKILL MODULES THROUGHOUT 2021. 4.THE ORGANIZATION AWARDED 4 POST-SECONDARY SCHOLARSHIPS 5.THE ORGANIZATION CONTINUES TO PROVIDE MONTHLY UPDATES, ANNOUNCEMENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES TO OUR MEMBERS VIA NEWSLETTERS, EMAIL BLASTS AND SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS.
